Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm.
Position Overview
Responsible for managing and overseeing all accounting function. Oversees the completion and reconciliation of ledger accounts and/or financial statements. Monitors account activity and account processes. Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as the overall goals of the organization. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions
Responsible for maintaining accounting office policies and procedures. In accordance with the UCO Foundation's and the University's quality objectives, responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and presentation of the financial systems, records and Internal controls. Ensures full compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, UCO Foundation, CASE, University, State Board of Regents, Regional University System and Internal Revenue policies and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board guidelines. Oversees the functions of general accounting, grants budget and post award and Foundation accounting. Serves as primary contact with external auditors for annual audits; formulates response to audit findings and assures implementation of necessary corrective actions. Oversees preparation of financial reports and documents for internal and external purposes, prepares 1099s, endowment reports and pooled income by ownership shares. Serves as a member of the Advancement Management Team and liaison to the UCO Foundation audit and finance committees. Performs other duties as assigned. Scope/Supervision: Reports to President of UCO Foundation/UCO Vice President Advancement. Directs the work efforts of several managers and individual contributors. Selection and hiring, staff development, work planning, performance management and responsibility for initiating various personnel actions for exempt and non-exempt employees.
Experience Required
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field that provides extensive knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Extensive knowledge and compressive understanding of functional area plus 7 years of experience with team management, leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment.
Experience Preferred
CPA preferred. Experience in fund accounting, grant and contract accounting. Previous experience with nonprofit higher education and/or Banner or Blackbaud software. Supervisory experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Good writing ability and strong computer skills. Strong attention to detail. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
