Position Overview

This is a Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) Graduate Assistant (GA) position, which will assist with collecting food waste data related to the Broncho Bites food recovery program, inputting the information into data tables, and assist with creation of monthly grant reports. Will assist with publishing data. Will be calculating nutritional content of food that is collected. Developing graphics and reports. Duties may also include collecting/overseeing the collection of food and compost from dining areas on campus and coordinating volunteers. Must have knowledge of food safety and sanitation (certification preferred, such as ServSafe).

 

Hours per Week

  • 10 hours per week through July 2024.
  • Days and times flexible.
  • May complete some work remotely.

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Each week, collect data from food donation sites (e.g., Ayers Kitchen, Central Station), and enter the information into MS Excel data tables on OneDrive.
  • Pull up recipes from Ayers Kitchen for food products put into Broncho Bites refrigerator to input into nutrition analysis program.
  • Assist with food collection from Ayers Kitchen.
  • Assist with composting – transport, running machine at Howell Hall (training provided), emptying, curing, etc.
  • Assist with getting permission for human research from Institutional Review Board (IRB).
  • Assist with scholarly dissemination of our food recovery data and findings (e.g., writing manuscripts for publishing, creating posters for presentation at conferences).

 

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. FWSP Requirements

In order to be considered for the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP), you must be awarded work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships, and you must accept your FWSP award in UConnect. Please be aware, the summer FWSP award is a separate application process and not included in the FWSP award for fall/spring.

Enrollment requirements for FWSP employment are the same each semester. Undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours, and Graduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours. If a student is enrolled in their final semester and the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of remaining credit hours needed to graduate and the anticipated graduation date) and provide the letter to the hiring department for submission to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Classified as a graduate student at the University of Central Oklahoma.
  • Able to become CITI-certified.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation.
  • Able to work with technology to input data and create graphics and reports.
  • Physically able to lift 50 pounds, with assistance.
  • Able to use nutrition software for nutrient analysis of food.
  • Graduating May 2024 or later.
