General Schedule:
Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm in-office at UCO’s main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma. Position is mission critical and may be required to work during campus closures (based on the payroll processing schedule).
Position Overview
Responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing to ensure employees are compensated accurately and on time. This includes building and analyzing data sets, pulling and generating reports, verifying and inputting payroll data, maintaining accurate system records, and ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations. The Payroll Specialist serves as a key point of contact for payroll inquiries, resolving discrepancies, answering questions, and providing guidance and training on payroll-related matters. The role requires strong technical skills to navigate and manage payroll systems, ensuring smooth and efficient payroll operations.
Job Duties
- Process and manage payroll transactions with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Input, verify, and maintain employee and payroll data in the HRIS and other payroll systems.
- Build, analyze, and audit data sets to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Perform regular data audits to identify discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.
- Calculate and make necessary payroll adjustments or corrections, ensuring all changes are accurately reflected in system records.
- Review timecards, audit time entries, and ensure accurate reporting of employee hours worked.
- Research, resolve, and respond to payroll inquiries or issues from employees and supervisors in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist in creating and delivering payroll-related training sessions for employees and supervisors to ensure compliance and understanding.
- Ensure strict adherence to payroll policies and regulations, effectively communicating updates and changes to employees and supervisors.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience Required
General education or vocational training and 3 years’ relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
Professional payroll experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong technical aptitude.
- Ability to navigate, troubleshoot, and assist others with the HR/Payroll software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and skilled at working with data.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to successfully prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).
- Integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of payroll practices, policies and procedures
