ABOUT THE UNIT

As one of the first schools of social work in the United States, the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice has shaped the field for more than 100 years. As part of the University of Chicago, the Crown Family School shares the University's core values and distinctive intellectual culture. Crown Family School faculty, staff and students focus on identifying solutions to complex problems through the integration of research, training, and direct community engagement. Guided by an interdisciplinary tradition, Crown Family School scholars conduct innovative research to address interconnected social challenges such as educational inequality, health disparities, crime and violence, poverty, and child and family welfare—working at multiple scales, from individual to policy-level interventions. Job Summary

The Field Coordinator collaborates with the Field Director and Associate Field Director to contribute to the overall functioning of the Field Education Program at the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy and Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prospect, develop, and monitor appropriate field placement sites for master’s level social work students.
  • Coordinate and manage the first year core field placement process (activities related to admissions, orientation, field placement matching and year-long consultation, with sections of students and Core Field Consultant.
  • Conduct meetings for students and Field Consultants including the field component of student orientation, quarterly Core Field Consultant meetings, and select Field Instructor trainings.
  • Manage day-to-day administrative tasks attendant to field activities and coordinate activities with other Crown School Departments (e.g., Dean of Students’ Office, Admissions and Information Technology as needed.
  • Participate in Annual Field Instructor meeting, all quarterly field consultant meetings, and Field Department staff meetings. Prepare written reports as assigned.
  • Evaluates and documents performance of programs, making or recommending improvements when appropriate.
  • Prepares program communications, including creating and coordinating dissemination of program materials.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Masters level social worker with MSW or LSW.
  • LCSW.

Experience:

  • Background in clinical social work practice, field instruction or supervision, and management.

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license.

Technical Skills Or Knowledge:

  • Adept at electronic communication and familiarity with Access, Excel and Word software.

Preferred Competencies

  • Ability to work independently, consider different perspectives, value inclusion, equity and diversity, understand and guide adult learners, and problem-solve in the context of graduate social work education are required skills.
  • Capacity to understand the role of field education within a complex academic system and interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work independently are assets for the position.
  • A understanding of the role of fieldwork in social work education and ability to facilitate connections between social work theory, research and practice are essential.
