The Assistant Director works collaboratively with HAC staff and provides overall academic support to the mission of the Herbst Academic Center. This position works directly with student-athletes on designated teams, directs at least one program which includes supervising staff, participates in analyzing and making decisions for the planning and direction of services and programs, and develops relationships on campus to benefit the mission of the Herbst Academic Center.
The Assistant Director for Academics will have the responsibility of supervising Academic Coordinator(s) and full-time and temporary staff through the Learning Facilitator Program.
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department's Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Plan, coordinate, and supervise the academic services provided to student-athletes:
- Manage and coordinate programs and services to ensure delivery of academic support to individual student-athletes and assigned athletic programs.
- Meet with students regularly. Create Individual Academic Plan (IAP) for each student and then coordinate use of campus-wide resources that would best allow each student-athlete to succeed academically.
- Collaborate with departmental academic advisors in planning degree programs for students.
- Work in conjunction with Director of Eligibility to determine progress towards degree.
- Connect with faculty and report regularly with coaches on the academic progress of their student-athletes.
- Participate in representational activities that are required of the Herbst Academic Center and are a part of the student-athlete recruiting process.
- Travel with team(s) as needed to provide academic support and structure to high-risk students.
- Monitor Academic Progress Rate (APR) of entire squad. Monitor academic eligibility of each individual scholarship student- athlete.
Serve as supervisor for Academic Coordinator(s) and Learning Facilitators.
- Meet with individuals regularly to provide guidance and support.
- Assist in problem solving and offer solutions. Encourage professional growth. Promote growth mindset.
- Maintain oversight to ensure policies and procedures are followed and academic integrity is preserved.
- Create schedules for Learning Facilitators to staff needed hours.
Serve as decision-maker in the Herbst Academic Center (HAC) as part of Leadership Team
- Responsible for creation and implementation of strategic plan, policies, procedures, onboarding, and ongoing training. Understand unit culture and work to enhance it.
- Continually cultivate and maintain professional relationships throughout athletic department and campus to enhance our operation. Collaborate and communicate with all constituents regularly.
- Analyze programming needs annually to ensure efficient and effective delivery of academic services for assigned teams, including football.
- Develop student academic assessment measures to track student-athlete academic progress toward matriculation and interventions where needed.
- Work with assigned coaching staffs to share academic strategic plan, policies, procedures.
- Serve as liaison with a campus program, regarding courses, curriculum, majors and minors, advising, enrollment, academic progress, retention, and graduation.
Chair First-Year Program (FYP) Academics Subcommittee, and Serve as the Herbst Academic Center liaison to the New Student and Family Programs Office:
- Facilitate meetings with FYP Academics Subcommittee to ensure necessary academic orientation information is delivered to all first-years during FYP summer and school year.
- Communicate regularly with coaches and staff regarding New Student Welcome process and information.
- Collaborate with academic programs/colleges to assist with batch enrollment. Serve as resource for Online Experience.
10% Other related duties
- Perform all work responsibilities and maintain confidentiality in all applicable policies, rules, regulations and laws regarding NCAA, Big 12, Athletics Department, University policies and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Position will be 100% in-person.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree in education or comparable field.
- Three years of experience in academic advising or counseling of students including one year advising.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
- Knowledge of student learning styles.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding student-athlete academic eligibility, APR, GSR, and PTD.
- Knowledge of and experience with tracking, reporting, and operating system/software/applications such as Teamworks, Google Workspace, OneDrive.
- Ability to develop individualized learning plans.
- Ability to coach, guide, and direct student-athlete learning.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain detailed documentation and records.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Advanced degree in education or comparable field.
- Minimum of three years of experience working with Division I Athletes in Division I athletics department.
