The division of Student Affairs is encouraging applications for the Assistant Director of Career Education position! The Assistant Director of Career Education will lead and innovate career education strategies, with a focus on creating engaging and customizable content for students who typically have lower engagement with Career Services. They will integrate a career framework into educational materials, design and maintain classroom presentations to enhance career readiness, and support a career ecosystem through academic partnerships. Additionally, they are the initial contact for requests from academic partners and will be an active participant in the Career Advocates Committee. As a member of the Career Services’ leadership team, they will represent their area of responsibility in leadership meetings, represent Career Services in meetings across campus, and support Career Services' strategic goals through various committees and professional engagements.
Supervision is a significant part of the role, involving the management of four professional staff members. This includes setting performance goals, providing coaching and mentorship, conducting annual evaluations, and recruiting and onboarding new career advisors. The role also involves offering one-on-one career advising for undergraduate students and recent alumni, facilitating career education content in both in-person and virtual classrooms, and customizing career education based on students' unique needs. Lastly, the position includes assisting with Career Services' events and activities and performing other duties as required.
Assistant Directors in Career Services have high levels of responsibility and authority over staff members, budget, and/or significant programs within the department. Assistant Directors have autonomy over decision-making related to the programs and services related to their area in collaboration with the Leadership Team and in alignment with the department’s mission and goals. Assistant Directors work with supervisees to set outcome goals and program direction in their respective areas. Additionally, they make staffing decisions for their areas in consultation with the Associate Director and Executive Director. In some circumstances, an Assistant Director may function as the campus lead related to a special program or initiative. Assistant Directors have the full authority of the Associate Director in their absence.

Responsibilities
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Leadership & Career Education Strategy
- Innovative programming for students
- Develop innovative and customizable career education content with a focus on supporting students that traditionally have lower engagement with Career Services.
- Infuse a career framework into all career education content
- Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of classroom presentations to support students' career readiness needs at scale, grounded in current standard methodologies and emerging trends.
- Career ecosystem implementation
- Build on Career Services’ existing framework to create programming and resources for academic partnerships in an effort to build a coordinated career ecosystem at CU Boulder.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for academic partners and delegate requests for presentations to the team.
- Serve on the Career Advocates Committee
- Department leadership
- Represent areas of oversight in leadership team meetings.
- Develop, refine, implement and assess programming and procedures that align with Career Services’ strategic goals.
- Support the overall success of Career Services. Serves on or leads various committees/workgroups/etc. on a team, department, division, or campus-wide level as indicated.
- Represents Career Services in meetings on- or off-campus, and at professional conferences/meetings as needed.
- Partner with and provide professional support to the Career Education leaders on team development.
- Supervise 4 professional staff members.
- In consultation with employees, set goals for performance and target dates in ways that contribute to the department’s goals and vision as well as support the employee’s professional growth.
- Conduct individual supervision meetings to provide ongoing coaching, support, and mentorship.
- Assign and delegate tasks and special projects to direct reports, including providing direction, mentorship, and constructive feedback.
- Conduct employee annual evaluations and performance goals in a timely and thorough manner.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard new career advisors and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for the team.
- Provide professional development opportunities for the team addressing perceived areas of needed growth.
- Provide one-on-one career advising for undergraduate students and recent alumni. This includes a combination of scheduled appointments, career assessment administration and interpretation, document reviews, email correspondence, and follow-up tasks. Maintain confidentiality in keeping with the FERPA and Student Affairs professional standards.
- Facilitate career education content in the classroom in both in-person and virtual.
- Customize offerings and approaches given the unique needs of students based on identity and values, academic pursuits, and professional interests.
- Assists with Career Services’ events and activities, and performs other duties as requested and required.
- Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (7:30-4:30pm during the summer months). Hybrid work: minimum of 3 days on campus and up to 2 days off campus each week. Some weekend and evening work may be required when it aligns with the strategic goals of Student Affairs and/or Career Services.
- Starting salary for this position is $71,000-$75,000.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5 years of professional, job related experience, including at least 1 year of supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and develop a team of professional staff members, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and fostering individual professional growth.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, process-driven environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with lean staff support.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills and the proven ability to communicate effectively with partners at all levels.
- Experience in presenting or facilitating in both in-person and online formats.
- Ability to translate student experiences to employment as evidenced by prior experience in either a government, non-profit, education, or private sector setting.
- By way of experience, evidence of ability to develop and implement programs, courses, events, and content to scale impact across various constituent groups.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve individual and shared goals within a complex and decentralized institution.
- Strong multicultural competency and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners to achieve equitable and inclusive results.
- Comfortable with technology and able to quickly learn and use a wide range of systems (Handshake, Salesforce), collaboration tools (Zoom, Teams), and instructional technologies (Canvas, Coursera, etc.)
- Proficiency in standard office applications/software, and the demonstrated ability to use computer applications and databases, manage data, spreadsheets, and documents, and create reports for the execution of work responsibilities.
- Knowledge of student and development and career development theories, implementation of high-impact educational practices, educational standard methodologies, client record management, and job search techniques.
- Master's with 5 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree with 7 years of experience.
- 3 years of supervision experience.
- Career coaching or advising experience in a college or University Career Center.
