Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology encourages applications for Data Science and Analysis Professional! This role works directly with the Head of Analytics Programs in the Data & Analytics (D&A) division of OIT. This position mainly focuses on survey administration and analysis, and is responsible for performing data manipulation and analysis, and creating data products, reports and dashboards.

As a professional-level position, the incumbent is expected to apply experience and concepts acquired in the field to independently complete assignments and tackle defined problems of moderate scope and complexity with established solutions. Work will be assigned by and is subject to review and periodic monitoring by the position's supervisor.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Survey Administration and Analysis:

  • Support supervisor, project lead, and/or D&A leadership coordinating with campus partners on survey design and methodology, providing guidance on standard processes to campus partners conducting surveys.
  • With guidance and support from supervisor or project lead, select and apply appropriate survey methodologies to ensure valid and reliable data collection.
  • Draft and refine surveys to address campus partner needs.
  • Implement survey setup, invitations, reminders, and incentives.
  • Clean and structure response data for analysis and reporting.
  • With support and direction from supervisor or project lead, apply appropriate data management, analytic, and data visualization methods for surveys to interpret results.

Data Manipulation And Analysis

  • With the support of supervisor, project lead, and/or D&A leadership, engage with relevant campus partners and the D&A leadership team to identify business requirements related to requests, projects and services.
  • Identify, review, arrange, and collect data to meet project specifications and minimize the limitations of subsequent analyses and reports
  • Curate appropriate data sets to optimize sustainable analytics, reports, and/or data products.
  • With the support of supervisor or project lead, use appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods (e.g. descriptive and exploratory data analysis, advanced statistical analysis, predictive modeling, causal and quasi-causal analysis, natural language processing, and/or survey methods) to meet campus partners’ needs.
  • Contribute ideas and assistance to help evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of data products, analyses, data models, reports and dashboards to ensure continuous improvement of the data services and products provided by D&A.
  • Effectively document code, analytic methods, data sources, and project specs and statuses in the appropriate repository (e.g., GitHub, Atlassian, etc).
  • Through the completion of data requests, projects and identified problems:
    • Establish familiarity with data assets to understand how existing internal and external data can inform decision-making or improve processes.
    • Maintain a data governance and security approach: use appropriate documentation, controls, levels of security, and approvals on data sets, reports, and other products.
    • With the support of supervisor or project lead, collaborate with data engineers to request and improve data pipelines and create integrity checks that assure accuracy and completeness of data sets.
Create data products, reports, and dashboards:

  • With support from supervisor, project lead, or D&A leadership:
    • Create, maintain, and automate accessible and informative reports (e.g., written reports, data visualizations, and dashboards) that present and synthesize results for campus partners.
    • Create data products (e.g., datasets, data dashboards, machine learning models) that meet campus partner needs.
    • Fulfill ad hoc data requests for data sets, analysis, aggregation, and synthesis.
    • Effectively communicate analytic methods and results to campus partners, through reports, data products, emails, and/or presentations.
What You Should Know

  • This position is in a hybrid work situation. This position may be expected to come on-site 1 - 4 times per month and at the discretion of the supervisor.

  • Salary: $72,900 - $82,055.

What We Require

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in applied math, statistics, computer science, data science, psychology, social sciences, or related field. A combination of education and relevant experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • 1 year(s) of professional experience which includes:
    • Developing research questions and methodologies, administering surveys, curating data sets, conducting analyses, and building data tools and products, and Using reproducible data analytics workflows, including version-controlled codebases in GitHub or similar.
    • Using SQL, Python, R, and/or SAS for data queries, data manipulation, and analysis.
    • Using Qualtrics or other survey administration tool.
    • Using Tableau or other data visualization tool for data visualization.
What You Will Need

  • An intellectual curiosity about higher education and how data analytics can advance the university’s mission.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in data preparation and processing (e.g., automating data cleaning and integrity testing), with the ability to work with structured and unstructured data and wrangle data in SQL and Python/R.
  • Proficiency with a selection of applied statistics or behavioral analyses such as: descriptive and exploratory data analysis, advanced statistical analysis, predictive modeling, causal and quasi-causal analysis, and/or natural language processing.
  • Able to write reports that highlight and explain conclusions from data analysis.
  • Knowledge of data visualization standard processes and able to apply these practices to create accessible and informative figures, charts, and dashboards.
  • Experience and proficiency documenting project plans and specifications, code, data sources, research methods, and analysis.
  • Proven proactive work style and creative problem-solving skills, attentive to details, quality, and follow-through with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability in and desire to stay ahead of emerging technologies and adapting to new technologies and tools.
  • Able to work independently, and in team environments and contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Commitment to act in alignment with OIT, the campus and the university's values.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • A Master’s or Doctoral Degree from an accredited university in applied math, data science, statistics, computer science, psychology, social sciences, or related field.

  • Familiarity with SAS for data queries, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Proficiency using Python/R and SQL for data queries, manipulation, and analysis.
  • Experience with multiple applied statistical methodologies or machine learning techniques.
  • Experience with cloud computing environments and data infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with Qualtrics or other survey administration tool.
  • Proficiency with Tableau.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
