Job Summary

Facilities Management at CU Boulder has 2 openings for a Structural Trades I position! These positions perform maintenance, installation, fabrication, inspection, and preventive maintenance of the structural aspects of the University's buildings.

We have 2 shifts available; a Day Shift and an Evening Shift.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Structural Component Installation, Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform the installation, maintenance and repair of structural attributes within Campus buildings, including assisting journey level carpenters with various aspects of painting and carpentry work such as installation of new ceiling tiles and grid systems, replacing existing ceiling tiles, repairing/replacing existing floor tiles, installing new floor tiles within rooms, installing cove base, repairing fixed seating in classrooms, repairing small areas of carpet, installing whiteboards, hanging picture frames, repairing windows, replacing window glass, adjusting doors and installing/repairing restroom partitions. May also assist with interior finishing and painting walls on an as-needed basis.

Small Construction Projects & Fabrication Support

  • Assist in the completion of fabrication projects and small construction projects, including assisting with the removal of existing materials, framing new walls, hanging drywall, installing doors and windows, installing ceiling materials, installing flooring materials and installing interior trim, and painting. May assist in cutting, sanding, assembling, moving, and installing shelves, cabinets and other casework.

Sheet Metal/Welding - Fabrication & Repair

  • Assist in fabricating and repairing of metal structures and components. This may include assisting to repair handrails, install handrails, repair ductwork, cut, drill and grind metal components, assemble metal fabrication projects, remove existing metal components and providing general assistance as needed.

Asbestos Abatement & Lead-Based Paint

  • Maintain 4 hour O&M training for asbestos operations with a yearly refresher. Be responsible to remove, drill, scrape, clean and generally work with materials that may contain asbestos. Window putty, ceiling tiles, floor tiles and walls may contain some level of asbestos. Attend annual training for lead-based paint awareness and stabilization processes.

Paperwork, Scheduling, & Other Duties

  • Responsible for completing material issuance requests and purchase requests to procure needed material. When closing work orders, include closing comments and ensure repair work orders are created. To complete these duties, the position will drive a State vehicle.

Safety

  • Actively participate in safety meetings. Follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete all safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations in a timely manner.

What You Should Know

  • This in-person position is eligible for our Facilities Management Employee Referral Program.
  • We have 2 shifts available: a Day Shift (Monday – Friday from 6:30 am – 3:00 pm) and an Evening Shift (Monday – Friday from 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm). This role may need to work alternate or extended schedules depending on business need.

What We Can Offer

  • The annual salary range for this position is $43,068 – 45,804.
  • If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require

  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply and possess a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • 2 years of experience in the structural trades (building maintenance trades including carpentry, electrical or painting maintenance, or locksmithing) OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to 2 years.

Essential Services

This position is designated “essential services.” The incumbent is required to respond to requests for work during campus emergencies (snow, wind, rain, flood and any other natural or man-made event) and report to work for his / her regularly assigned shift during emergency campus closures.

Salary : $43,068 - $45,804
