Job Summary :
Key Responsibilities :
At the direction of a qualified physician or advance practice provider (APP), performs independent diagnostic ultrasound examinations requiring independent judgment and initiative in the utilization of ultrasonic equipment for diagnostic ultrasound examinations on "high-risk obstetrical" patients.
Reviews patient history and physician's orders to perform prescribed study.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and attending to all age-related physical, spiritual, and psychosocial needs.
Evaluates the learning needs of the patient and / or family and provides patient / family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exams to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and / or medications within the scope of practice.

Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications :
Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist program or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program.
4-6 years of ultrasound technician experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
1-2 years of vascular ultrasound technician experience in outpatient "obstetrics".
Bilingual, Spanish-speaking.
Epic and Kronos experience.
Conditions of Employment :
Fetal Echo Training within 12 months of hire.
Registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
Registered as a Technologist (RT) and certified in Sonography (S) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). State licensure if required by law.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider-level CPR certification.
Maintains all required licensure and certifications for the position.
Maintains all required continuing education requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, including physicians, leadership, and staff within the various affiliate organizations (UCH, Children's Colorado, CU Medicine, CU SOM).
Ability to work within large, complex healthcare systems.
Ability to analyze and interpret data.
Ability to compile complex reports and develop presentations.
Ability to compose letters and memorandums.
Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people.

The MFM Diagnostic Sonographer performs independent diagnostic ultrasound examinations on "high-risk obstetrical" patients who will be subsequently evaluated and treated by a Maternal Fetal Medicine attending physician, preparing preliminary reports for physician review, and verifying data obtained from the sonogram. As needed, you may train staff in the retrieval of records to facilitate requests from referring physicians or fellow sonographers. You will work cooperatively with the Medical Directors, Perinatologists, fellow Sonographers, and the administrative team to ensure high patient and referring physician satisfaction.
