This full-time professional exempt position supports undergraduate student success and degree completion by delivering holistic, proactive and developmental advising services. This position is responsible for managing and monitoring a caseload of diverse undergraduate students, primarily in their first 1 ½ year of college, within the School of Public Affairs (~45 credit hours, or less). If it has to do with early college success, this position is involved. This position actively engages in student development, persistence, and retention efforts by deploying preemptive outreach campaigns, reengagement initiatives, and progress monitoring to improve student success. This position will provide timely and accurate advising services during orientation and throughout the students’ first year-and-a-half. This position will maintain a caseload of approximately 80-100 students.

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $55,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Early Success Academic Advisor
What you will do:
Academic Advising & Student Retention
- Facilitate proactive and intrusive individual and group advising sessions to freshmen and transfer undergraduate School of Public Affairs students with approximately ~45 credit hours, or less.
- Conduct regular and consistent outreach to caseload throughout the first year-and-a-half with the goal of truly getting to know your students- helping students navigate challenges, celebrate wins, develop, and work toward goals, provide resource referrals, and regular, scheduled follow-ups.
- Notify students of academic standing- providing extra attention and support to those students with less than good academic standing.
- Work closely with senior academic advisor to transition students in a supportive manner after completing ~45 credit hours
- Partner with UNIV College Success to support incoming SPA freshmen
- Partner with University offices to promote and engage students in High-Impact Practices (HIPS) -this includes promoting existing opportunities, but also possibly developing and implementing your own ideas and initiatives
- Conduct outreach to all eligible work-study SPA freshmen, educating them on work-study, and providing guidance and assistance on searching for, and applying to work-study positions
- May Supervise up to 2 work-study SPA student employees to work at our Student Services front desk. This includes working with HR to post positions, conduct a search, interview students, develop and conduct onboarding and training, maintaining student schedules and engagement in on-going professional development
- Become a champion and liaison with CU Denver central student services, including the Office of Student Life- this includes developing positive, working relationships with campus partners, and helping students connect with those offices with a warm handoff
- Utilizes technology such as Degree Audit, CU-SIS, Civitas/EAB, Slate, OnBase and other programs extensively to assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans that align with their academic and career goals
- Attend ongoing professional training and development
- Represent SPA in relevant University committees, events and groups
- Represent SPA with undergraduate admission and undergraduate admission events
- Support ongoing enrollment and retention efforts both University-wide, SPA specific and caseload specific
- Regularly review relevant student retention and success data, providing thoughts, feedback and insights
- Partner with SPA on content strategies for student success and retention
- Provide feedback, ideas, engagement, and execution toward improving student success and retention
- It's important that this position is highly visible and engaged on campus.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- One (1) Year of Professional experience in a student services facing role in higher education (this could be a student position, or professional position)

- Ability to optimize technology to implement advising best practices.
- Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required for student events & graduations.
- This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office. The position is approved for a hybrid work schedule with typically 4 days on-campus per week, and 1 day remote per week. Additional flexibility may be available during summer and winter break, if desired.
