Job Description
The goal of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Clinical Gastroenterology Fellowship is to provide a 1-year postgraduate gastroenterology training program for an APP in a clinical outpatient setting, designed to develop a specialization in gastroenterology through didactic education and clinical experience.
The curriculum will provide the fellow with the background information necessary to successfully identify the main clinical manifestations, causes, and the differential diagnosis of the major types of gastrointestinal diseases and their complications. The curriculum will be primarily focused in our outpatient GI setting with core rotations including general digestive health, therapeutics (pancreas and hepatobiliary disease), esophageal clinic, inflammatory bowel disease and motility disorders. In addition, the fellow will have exposure within our subspecialties including hepatology, colorectal surgery, nutrition, hereditary colorectal neoplastic clinic, and inpatient hospital service. The core clinic rotations will range from four to eight weeks and the subspecialty rotations will range from one to three weeks.
In between clinic days, the fellow will have 1 day per week for didactics which may be done on campus or at home. During this time, the fellow will be responsible for completing assigned reading materials and modules through the American College of Gastroenterology Education Universe Portal. This membership cost will be covered by the CME budget.
At the end of each rotation, there will be a competency multiple choice exam as well as an assessment completed by the fellow and preceptor. There will be biweekly meetings with the Program Director via zoom.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant or AANP program in the United States.
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s- Board eligible or certified.
- Nurse Practitioner license must be ACNP, FNP or AGNP
- BLS certificate
- Eligible Physician Assistant candidates must have passed the PANCE examination prior to the beginning of the fellowship but can apply prior to taking boards.
