The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for two Senior Consultants . These positions report to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Leadership Support and Programming and are responsible for supporting and advising unit leads at CU Boulder regarding how to plan, execute, and assess efforts designed to improve campus environments. The Senior Consultant will provide expertise and consulting services in the areas of research, assessment, student success, talent acquisition, professional development and learning, leadership development, and / or organizational change. They will assist colleagues in operationalizing strategic goals and evaluating policy and programmatic impact in support of the campus' priorities to create environments where everyone matters and can thrive. Incumbents will apply the work done by the University of Southern California's Pullias Center to advance Shared Equity Leadership (SEL) alongside a range of competency models and frameworks (e.g., NASPA / ACPA Professional Competencies, Leadership Reconsidered, Multicultural Organizational Development) to develop transformational higher education leaders who are capable of creating positive and supportive environments for a range of constituents and their needs. This work will address the personal, collective and structural work needed to activate and sustain institutional change and transformation.

Who We Are

The Office of Leadership Support and Programming is part of the chancellor's office and is charged with :

Supporting and advancing the chancellor's priorities.

Creating and supporting campus environments where everyone matters and all can thrive.

Providing services to campus leaders (e.g., planning, assessment, communications) to help advance the chancellor's priorities.

Build capacity in leadership in the areas of access, opportunity, and engagement to address disparate outcomes, myriad experiences and needs.

Sponsoring and supporting initiatives needed to build community and create connections for employees.

Providing leadership for assessing campus environments and applying data-informed approaches to organizational development.

Providing resources (e.g., funding, materials, consultations) for new or existing programs focused on improving campus environments.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Assessment, evaluation, and project management. Assist units and campus partners in operationalizing strategic goals for creating environments where everyone matters and can thrive (e.g., assessment plan creation, data collection and analysis, communication of results), implementing shared equity leadership (Kezar et al., 2021).

Relationship building and consulting for leadership development (e.g., standing meetings, communications, creating and / or executing curriculum and models, consensus building).

Sensitive or high-level administrative functions (e.g., project or team lead, writing, planning, editing) needed to support oce programs or events.

Research and benchmark promising practices in higher education to make recommendations (e.g., creating annotated bibliographies, presentations, models, evaluating research, networking with colleagues at other universities); curating research, tools, resources.

Engage administrative support and perform general oce duties; archive and organize; provide leadership within the oce (e.g., onboarding new team members).

  • After the initial training period, this position offers a hybrid work modality with 1 day per week of remote work. On average, work hours align with traditional business hours with occasional evening and weekend needs and the potential for flexibility.

What We Can Offer

The annual hiring range for this position is $113,100-$150,000.

Relocation is available for eligible candidates.

What We Require

  • PhD or terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education, social sciences, human resources) and 3 years of related experience or experience providing consulting services to executive leaders
  • What You Will Need

    Effective knowledge

    Knowledge of strategic planning and the national landscape, particularly in, but not limited to, higher education as it pertains to creating and assessing supportive campus environments. Demonstrated expertise using promising consultation practices (e.g., strategic planning documentation and frameworks, methods for operationalizing priorities, human-centered and universal design principles). Critically applies and provides assistance to others for engaging assessment as a process and approach to program evaluation and development, management and analysis of data. Creates curricula for educating on promising practices and assessment programs. Applies knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to complete dicult assignments.

    Content knowledge of higher education research to improve campus environments and outcomes (e.g., student success, education and training, leadership or organizational development).

    Assessment and evaluation skills in higher education environments (e.g., creating goals, outcomes, assessment plans, identifying metrics and KPIs).

    Synthesizing information for diverse audiences (e.g., translating climate survey results, creating research briefs and literature reviews).

    Accountability and self-management

  • Self-management of tasks with supervisor consultation; high degree of personal accountability and organizational skills required. Uses agility and exibility to support communities and positive change through ambiguity. Demonstrates high emotional intelligence.
  • Teamwork and leadership

  • Uses a client-focused approach to build trust with unit leads, engage in thought partnership, and adjust methods to unit leads' needs, priorities, and foci. Collaborates with other Senior Consultants to share promising practices and identify campuswide themes; supports and works with other staff in the oce, ad hoc work groups, and project management teams; executes consensus building and collaboration. Functions at level immediately below executive leadership (senior vice chancellor). Supports and creates conditions for productive and functional team dynamics; takes responsibility for team goals and inspires others.
  • Communication

  • Writing and editing proficiency for university-level and external publications and communications; engagement and effective relationship building with campus community members; must demonstrate attention to detail and high standards of discretion, exibility, emotional regulation, and tailoring approaches. Serves as a resource to other team members.
  • Innovation and problem-solving

  • Ability to work with myriad colleagues across campus to develop solutions for a wide variety of challenges; continuously evaluate processes with a focus on outcomes. Uses a high level of skill, discretion, creativity, and judgment for navigating interpersonal and complex leadership challenges. Incorporates new facts, research, and ideas into group processes and applies creative thinking to develop new solutions.
