Associate Professor/Clinical â Neuromuscular Medicine/EMG Neurologist (1.0 FTE)
Job Description:
This position is for a clinical neurologist who will develop a practice in Neuromuscular Medicine/EMG and will organize and direct other onsite neuromuscular faculty in the treatment of a variety of peripheral nerve and muscle disorders. The ideal candidate will be Neuromuscular Fellowship-trained and eager to participate in a multispecialty group practice that provides patient-centered care rooted in evidence-based medicine. The practice is primarily neuromuscular, along with limited general Neurology. The applicant should have expertise and training in EMG and nerve conduction studies; experience and interest in evoked potential interpretation, botulinum neurotoxin or nerve block injection are highly desirable. An autonomic nerve facility is available for those with interest and training in this area. Opportunity to develop multidisciplinary clinics for ALS and/or muscular dystrophy in collaboration with the ALSA and MDA, as well as clinical and/or research interests in myasthenia gravis, neuropathy and muscle diseases. Collaborative research projects are encouraged.

The successful candidate will serve as Neuromuscular/EMG Division Chief and will lead the division in its clinical and educational responsibilities. The applicant should have prior faculty experience and accomplishments sufficient to merit appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Additionally, this position will also direct the UConn Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship. Responsibilities include coordinating an educational program in collaboration with affiliated hospitals. The University of Connecticut School of Medicine Neuromuscular Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program with one fellow per year training in the clinical diagnosis, management, and pathology of neuromuscular disorders. This fellowship is designed for individuals planning a career in academic neurology with a focus on neuromuscular diseases.Â
The successful applicant will be responsible for clinical service, teaching, and clinical investigation.
Provide care of neurology clinic patients with a specific focus on Neuromuscular Medicine/EMG evaluation, either in Neurology Clinic in the Outpatient Pavilion or adjacent to the neurophysiology suite in the renovated Connecticut Tower (CT3). General neurology patients may be seen when/if subspecialty patients are not available.
Perform consultations and admit Neurology patients to John Dempsey Hospital in rotation with other faculty.
Teach medical students, medical residents, and neurology residents and fellows in the outpatient clinic, the neurophysiology suite and John Dempsey Hospital.
Lead and develop the clinical, education and research programs in Neuromuscular Medicine/EMG.
 Minimum Qualifications: Neurology Residency; Board certified/eligible Neurologist
