The Institute's work centers community engaged and participatory research approaches as well as interdisciplinary collaboration designed to catalyze systems change.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The University of Connecticut Health Disparities Institute is recruiting a full-time tenure track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor. This position will report to the Director of HDI and hold an appointment in the school medicine in the department of public health sciences. This person would be expected to pursue research, teaching and service focused on health equity and the social determinants of health, the impact of racism on health, intervention, or implementation research to address the health impacts of structural racism, and the critical role race and the political economy play in determining life chances and community characteristics at the neighborhood, municipal, and regional levels. Examples of areas of specialization may include but are not limited to urban-related scholarship, community-engaged research, evidence-based policymaking/strategies, critical analyses of the causes and effects of health disparities, anti-racist approaches to addressing health disparities, interventions to mitigate the effects of racism on health. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research incorporates critical theories and is focused on Connecticut communities. Candidates for the assistant level position are expected to build an externally funded research portfolio within three years. Candidates at the associate level should have an externally funded research portfolio.
REQUIREMENTS
A doctoral degree in a health-related field such as public health, social work, social policy, urban planning or community psychology.
A research agenda aligned with the mission and vision of HDI.
A strong record of scholarly productivity in the area of structural racism, health equity, the social determinants of health, racial justice and participatory research.
Evidence of exceptional research potential (as demonstrated by relevant publications and funding potential). For candidates at the associate level should have an established track record.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Evidence of an ability to secure external funding.
Experience with community engaged and participatory research methods.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty are expected to engage in research and scholarly activities, such as
Building an externally funded research portfolio aligned with the mission of HDI.
Providing thought leadership locally, regionally, and nationally on the advancement of health equity including social determinants of health such as racism and poverty
Contributing to scholarship through high-quality publications in top-tier venues.
Developing and delivering curricula for graduate and medical students that will advance health equity.
Service to the institute and profession through participation on leadership committees, boards, and associations with international, national, state and local health agencies
Partnering with local communities to address racism and advocating policies that advance health equity.
