Assistant/Associate Professor In-Residence â Surgical Intensivist

 Position Description
The Department of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and UConn Health is seeking a fulltime faculty (In-Residence) Surgical Intensivist; 30% Critical Care/Medicine; 55% Surgery and Acute Care Surgery and 15% Education/Administration, at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. This individual will participate in resident and medical student education. Duties and responsibilities:
Responsible for clinical service, teaching, and clinical investigation.
As a member of the Critical Care Unit (Surgical ICU),
participate in the clinical care of surgical patients in the closed critical care unit. In this role, the Surgical Intensivist will report directly to the Chair of Surgery.
As a member of the Department of Surgery, perform consultations and admit Surgery patients to John Dempsey Hospital, as well as provide outpatient care. In this role, the Surgical Intensivist will report to the Chair of the Department of Surgery.
Contribute to the administration and leadership of:
The Critical Care Unit, as deemed necessary by the Director of the ICU.
Development of Level 3 trauma center at JDH as deemed necessary by the Chair of Surgery.
Development of protocol and clinical pathways for emergency general surgical service including a Emergency General Surgery and Trauma follow up clinic
the Department of Surgery, as directed by the Chair of Surgery.

Ensure compliance with UConn Health policies and procedures.
Participate in Critical Care APRN and Surgery PA supervision and training.
Teach medical students, medical residents, surgery residents
and fellows at John Dempsey Hospital and Outpatient Clinic.
Participate in research and scholarly activities
 Minimum Qualifications:
Surgery Residency
Board certified/eligible in Surgical Critical Care
Board certified/eligible in Surgery

Special and Preferred Qualifications:
1 or more years of fellowship training (Surgical Critical Care)
