UConn Health is searching for a Clinical Program Coordinator (Perinatal Safety Nurse). This position will serve as a collaboration Member of the leadership team who will oversee the current and future development, implementation and evaluation of site-specific obstetric patient safety and quality initiatives. Examples include, but not limited to, the national perinatal patient safety bundles and the joint commission elements of Performance for Maternal Safety.
SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. flexibility needed to work other hours, 30-minute unpaid meal break.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Works under limited supervision of a Director, Nursing or other designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED : Clinical Program Team Members
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Creates and establishes protocols, policies , form, and tools related to the program.
Monitors accreditation policies and procedures, responsible for the facilitation of the program.
Analyze and evaluate patient encounters, logs, and data on program.
Collects measurement data related and evaluates processes and/or outcomes of care and reports deficiencies to Medical Director or responsible committee or administrator.
Chairs, co-chairs or facilities various committee meetings related to program care.
Supports in the education and training of the medical and clinical staff, including orientation and continuing in-service- programs for staff impacting the program.
Actively participates in correcting deficiency in care and coordinating the performance improvement peer review through multi-disciplinary subcommittee meetings.
Organizes community outreach activities/events to related to the program.
Collaborates with marketing regarding program and outreach and serves as community liaison on behalf of the program and hospital.
Obtains and maintains program certification/designation.
Performs site specific needs assessments in order to develop, implement and monitor rapid response plans for emergencies i.e obstetric hemorrhage (including quantification of blood loss on all births), severe hypertension/eclampsia, emergency cesarean section and should dystocia ( to replace the stroke description example)
Implement maternal safety bundles
Establish a physician/partner/champion/dyad for patient safety and quality collaboration.
Partner with the nurse educator to support the learning needs of RNs and providers.
Performs other related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of the principles of program management; knowledge of specialty anatomy and physiology, diagnosis, identification and triage, preventive care, hyperacute care, diagnostics, acute care, post-acute care and discharge planning, rehabilitation, systems and quality, community care.
Role model in critical thinking, assessment skills and evidenced based nursing care.
Effective communication [oral and written] and interpersonal skills
Considerable analytical skills
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office application: Excel, Publisher, Word and PowerPoint
Strong leadership skills, time and project management skills
Ability to lead educational activities
Ability to facilitate change, work harmoniously with teams and manage effectively
Ability to multitasks
GENERAL EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing
A minimum of three [3] years clinical experience in labor and delivery.
Must possess and maintain Connecticut State license during employment, in the required discipline.
Must hold and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Nursing
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and push and pull heavy objects.
Be prepared to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Works irregular hours.
May be exposed to communicable/infectious diseases.
MINIMUM FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY : $95,888.00
