Position Summary:

The University of Dayton, a top-tier Catholic research university, seeks a passionate and detail-oriented Grants Specialist I to join our Academic Research Administration division. This full-time role offers the opportunity to contribute to the university's mission of advancing knowledge and fostering intellectual curiosity while enjoying a vibrant and supportive work environment. As a Grants Specialist I, you will play a crucial role in the pre-award process, assisting faculty and researchers in securing external funding for their groundbreaking projects.

This position is responsible for reviewing and processing research agreements and contracts administered by the OAR office, and other non-financial post award services. It is an essential component of research and scholarly activities through the university community and is a primary factor in ensuring that awarded projects comply with federal regulations, including Uniform Guidance, and other internal/external policies and legal requirements. The position will interact with federal, state, and other funding agencies to establish and maintain administrative oversight of received funding. The Grants Specialist 1 must have technical and interpersonal skills to facilitate the review, negotiation, and processing of contract agreements, including sub-agreements, modifications and/or amendments – and – to serve as liaison between the OAR office and the Comptroller’s office in streamlining the flow of information and contractual/budget data.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and communication skills including both written and verbal communications
  • Successful experience working and collaborating with various and diverse constituents
  • Experience managing multiple work assignments and meet critical deadlines
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen


Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate level skill with Microsoft Word
  • Experience with federally-funded grants (e.g., NSF, NIH, DOE, or other)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the grant life cycle
  • Experience in grants writing or administration
