Position Summary:

Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of additive manufacturing and repair technologies? Join the University of Dayton's prestigious UDRI - Sustainment Tech Transiti division as a Lead Additive Repair Technician and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of advanced manufacturing.

This position will support advanced manufacturing programs for aircraft sustainment activities. This role will support repair through advanced manufacturing processes including part/repair setup, cold spray deposit, generation, testing, and equipment operation and maintenance. The successful candidate will understand cold spray or other advanced manufacturing processes. The position will support design, manufacturing, and test/validation of hardware/procedures for cold spray repair technologies. The successful candidate may be assigned to assist an engineer or scientist with cold spray techniques, other repair techniques and additive manufacturing, and will provide guidance on design for manufacturability, equipment and part set up, and part processing. This technician will be responsible leading the tool tracking/control process in and around the booth as well as facility modifications. Technicians will potentially contribute to pre- and post-machining of samples and parts. The majority of work will support government customers, with some industry and academic partners being supported as well.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of cold spray experience is required.
  • Formal technical training beyond high school can be substituted for two years of related experience.
  • Experience with quality standards (e.g. ISO9001).
  • Proficient at routine and advanced technical functions in support of a research activity with little to no supervision.
  • Knowledge of cold spray processes and testing requirements (Adhesion, Microscopy, etc.)
  • Knowledge of metal mechanical testing.
  • Expected to exercise sound technical judgment, initiative, and ingenuity.
  • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.


Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Associates degree in a related technical field.
  • 7 years of cold spray experience or other additive repair experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with cold spray processes.
  • Knowledge of additive repair technologies to include thermal spray, DED, and additive manufacturing.
  • Experience with process flow diagrams (5S/Kaizen)
  • Capable of modeling fixturing utilizing CAD/CAM software (i.e. Solidworks)
  • Experience with metal machining in a production environment.
  • Experience with process documents generation for quality standards such as ISO9001 or AS9100.
  • Experience with the relocation of equipment to include piping, cabling, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CNC machining.
