What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-College Programs Instructors Part-Time - Upward Bound (Math / Science / Spanish / Language Arts Focus) position at University of Dayton?
Position Summary :
The instructor position exists as a requirement for the administration of the Upward Bound program at the University of Dayton. The approved grant proposal stipulates that the program will provide instruction during the academic year and summer components for program students who are high school students in the qualified Dayton Public Schools. This is a grant funded position and contingent upon those funds associated with the grant. There is a need for Language Arts, Math, Science and Spanish instructors. Therefore, those that possess these backgrounds will be strongly considered. Our instructors will teach for a total of 5 weeks, 1-3 hours per day for 4 days per week.
Provide customer service and / or student advocacy as demonstrated through a positive attitude in teaching, approachability, adaptability, strong problem
solving and desire to identify and support student success.
Engage in behaviors that encourage student learning.
Provide academic instruction in the classroom and laboratory setting.
Provide creativity in learning both in and out of the traditional classroom
setting.
Explain and clarify classroom and textbook information.
Assist students in developing good study skills and habits.
Provide information about academic and study aids.
Provide clear and consistent feedback on course material and student
academic work.
Consult with high school instructors and college faculty if needed.
Interpret rules, definitions, and usage etc.
Guide students through sample problems or examples.
Attend staff meetings and orientations as scheduled an assigned by Project
Director.
Instructors also : develop curriculum, develop syllabi, develop and administer
tests to students, grade papers, evaluate the performance of each student
and disseminates grades, and provides supplemental instruction and tutoring.
Minimum Qualifications :
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required in education in one of the following areas : Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Biology, or Chemistry,
Foreign Language – Spanish or French.
Must have teaching certification or licensure required
Preferred Qualifications :
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following :
Master’s preferred
One to three years of teaching experience preferred
