Position Summary
The McAuley School of Nursing is part of the College of Health Professions and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Undergraduate tracks include traditional, second-degree option, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion programs. Graduate offerings include the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) exit tracks for family nurse practitioner, adult gerontology clinical nurse specialist, post-graduate certificate emergency nurse practitioner, and Nurse Anesthesia. The Master’s Entry Advance Generalist (MEAGN) offers prelicensure preparation at the master’s level. The University of Detroit Mercy is ranked 43rd in the country and 2nd in the state of Michigan by the Wall Street Journal America’s Best Colleges 2025.
The McAuley School of Nursing invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Nursing. This 9-month position seeks highly motivated educators for our undergraduate and/or graduate programs. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated an active program of scholarship, and evidence of excellence in teaching university-level academic nursing, as well as relevant RN practice experience in one or more of these priority areas: fundamentals, medical/surgical, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and advanced nursing practice. This position will support nursing programs primarily on our McNichols and Novi campuses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The McAuley School of Nursing seeks innovative scholars with demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship in nursing and/or related fields. The successful candidate will make significant contributions to our undergraduate and/or graduate programs in integrating the mission and vision of the University. This tenure-track faculty position includes a full teaching load each semester and may include classroom, clinical, simulation lab, and online instruction.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in nursing (PhD or DNP), or doctoral degree in a closely related discipline
- ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Michigan RN license or eligible for RN licensure in this state.
- Relevant RN practice experience as indicated in the position summary.
- Graduate degree in Nursing and relevant practice experience as a nationally certified APRN.
Preferred Qualifications
- Record of experience and demonstrate commitment to teaching and scholarship.
- Recent clinical experience with flexibility teaching in multiple environments including didactic, clinical, and simulation.
Physical Requirements
The job may require lifting lightweight objects (1 to 15 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping.
Work Environment
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a standard office and classroom. Environment subject to change pending semester workload and inclusion/exclusion of clinical site to consideration of environment.
Licenses/Certifications
Michigan RN license or eligible for RN licensure in this state with national certification as APRN.
Salary/Pay Information
Commensurate with experience.
Anticipated Schedule
The appointment begins August 2025.
