The University of Evansville is seeking a dynamic and motivated Athletics Annual Giving Officer to join our University Advancement team. This full-time role is key to building a strong culture of philanthropy within the Athletics Department by developing and executing strategic fundraising initiatives. The position focuses on growing unrestricted athletics support and sports-specific giving, while working closely with coaches, university leadership, alumni, and development professionals to increase donor participation and long-term engagement.
Reporting to the Athletics Major Gifts Officer, the Athletics Annual Giving Officer will play a central role in leading annual giving appeals, managing outreach campaigns, cultivating donor relationships, and expanding the major gifts pipeline.
Key Responsibilities:
Development of a Strong Case for Support of Unrestricted Athletics Funding
- Craft and communicate compelling reasons to support unrestricted athletics giving.
- Ensure messaging resonates with donors and highlights the impact of their contributions.
- Develop materials and presentations that articulate the need for philanthropic support.
Annual Unrestricted Athletics Fundraising Appeals
- Plan and execute fundraising campaigns to inspire donor support for the unrestricted athletics fund.
- Develop a comprehensive marketing plan to highlight this fund during Pep and Vim week-the University’s annual giving week.
- Utilize multiple channels, including email, direct mail, social media, and events.
- Monitor campaign performance and adjust strategies to maximize results.
- Ensure Benefits are provided as communicated.
Annual Sports Specific Fundraising Appeals
- Serve as the primary point of contact for sports-specific annual giving program.
- Foster relationships with donors who have a passion for specific sports programs.
- Work directly with coaches, athletics staff and Major Gift Officers to achieve the unrestricted, operational funding goals of each sport.
- Ensure benefits are provided as communicated.
- Develop a comprehensive marketing plan to execute Support Your Sport week.
- Manage the Athletics Annual Fund Calendar to ensure timely and effective outreach for unrestricted as well as sport specific giving.
Expanding the Pipeline for Major Giving
- Identify and cultivate relationships with donors who have the potential to transition to major gift commitments in athletics. Secure leadership annual gifts of up to $4,999 from individuals donors.
- Work closely with the major gifts team to develop engagement strategies for high-potential donors.
- Ensure seamless donor stewardship and engagement to encourage long-term philanthropic support.
Increasing Athletics Giving Percentage
- Boost overall donor participation in athletics by enhancing outreach efforts.
- Improve donor stewardship through personalized communication and recognition programs.
- Build and sustain a culture of philanthropy within the athletics community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferred fields: business, marketing, sports management, or related).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or a related field—preferably within athletics or higher education.
- Proven success managing fundraising campaigns, donor engagement strategies, and volunteer coordination.
- Proficiency in CRM/fundraising databases and email marketing tools.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and project management skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for college athletics and a commitment to advancing philanthropic support.
- Availability to travel for events and donor meetings; evening and weekend work is required during key fundraising periods and athletic events.
