The Residential Coordinator (RC) is a full-time live-in university administrator reporting to the Director of Residence Life. This position is an exempt full-time live-in University administrator with a variety of campus responsibilities. Due to the nature of the position, a residence hall efficiency apartment (furnished) and a dining plan, which may include an AceBucks only option, for the fall and spring semesters is provided by the University.

Residential Coordinator (RC) responsibilities include management of one or more residential area(s) of 100-293 students and supervising a lead RA in an adjacent building. Within Residence Life, the RC works in areas of residence hall administration, staff supervision, crisis management/referral, monitoring health and safety standards, upholding community standards, and assisting in Student Life collaborative events and functions.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Building Administration: Oversees daily operation of a residence hall area. Responsible for building openings/closings, check- in/check-out processes, hall office staffing, mail functions, room changes, hall budgets, monthly and semester reports. Partners with Facilities, Housekeeping, Public Safety, Admin Services and OTS to meet the needs of students within the building.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervises, trains, and evaluates all RA staff within buildings. Coordinates staff functions, facilitates staff development, and conducts regularly scheduled one-on-ones. Provides ongoing performance feedback to staff. Participates in central RA selection and training.
  • Hall Programming & Student Group Advising: Provides leadership in the delivery of social and educational programming and events within the hall. Coordinates and tracks hall programs. Oversees hall and floor programming efforts of residence hall staff including community development, educational, cultural, and service programs, Advises Hall Council/Committees. Works with thematic housing concepts if existing within the assigned residence hall.
  • Crisis / Health & Safety / Discipline: Provides 24-hr crisis intervention and basic emergency response services. Participates in shared on-call duty responsibilities. First response for medical / emotional / discipline situations. Designated as the primary Safety Coordinator for assigned buildings. Coordinates building Health and Safety Inspections. Serves as a Hearing Officer for the Residence Hall, holding student discipline meetings as needed.
  • Collaborative Assignments: Each Residential Coordinator coordinates a segment of central residence life functions such as RA training, RA selection, summer conferences/housing, department marketing and communications, student organization advising, and/or other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with 1 -2 years experience in Residence Life. Valid US driver license. An understanding of student development needs and the ability to work with University and Department database systems.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree with 2-3 years experience in Residence Life. Direct experience with eRezLife. Experience implementing residential curriculum is preferred. First Aid / CPR Certification.

This position requires strong supervisory, organizational, and human relations abilities, as well as professional verbal and written communication skills. It specifically requires the ability to create processes, lead and coach student staff, and provide high quality programs and services. Must be a self- starter, who can effectively manage projects and people. Must be an excellent interpersonal leader, community builder, independent collaborator, and a solutions-oriented leader and mentor. Direct experience in student life or residential life preferred. Should have a solutions-oriented attitude and experience implementing residential curricular programs.

  • Proven written and oral communication essential.
  • Prioritize multiple projects and tasks along with building consensus and trust.
  • Work with independently and as part of a team, quickly and under pressure.
  • Quickly learn to be a resourceful collaborator throughout the UE community.
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook software, social media understanding, general office equipment and previous or quick ability to learn UE operational tasks.
  • Knowledge of higher education, people-driven activities and inclusion at all levels.
  • A sensitivity to the human condition is essential to deal effectively with a wide array of issues such as: substance abuse, eating disorders, depression, sexual misconduct, roommate disputes, gender expression, and discipline situations.
  • Mature reasoning and an educational approach is important to acquire when dealing with community standards and hearing disciplinary cases.
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times.

Other Information:

Start date of June 1, 2025. Position is a full-time exempt position. A strong presence is required in Ridgway office Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. (Summer Hours are 8am – 4:30pm with Fridays 8am – 4pm). A flexible schedule is followed in recognition of required evening and weekend hours to provide visibility, maintain student contact, and address resident concerns or situations after-hours. Typically, RCs spend 6-7 hours per weekday in the main office with the balance being spent in their buildings. Some regularly scheduled meetings occur in the evenings. RCs participate in on-call rotation with fellow RCs and the Assistant Directors for Residence Life and the Center for Student Engagement. Must be available for occasional weekend Open Houses, new student orientation days, and other special University events. Must be available for staff training periods as well as check-in and check-out times. May travel to conferences due to student group advising.

Physical and Mental Effort:

  • Climbing stairs, dealing with sick students, being able to quickly evacuate a building, handling emergencies.
  • Expected to make quick decisions, supervise workers, read or write, speak publicly, and generate and interpret data.
  • The maximum amount of weight the employee may be asked to lift during a normal day is no more than approximately 20 lbs.
