The Russell lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team as an Hourly OPS Research Assistant in the invasive aquatic plant research lab. The successful candidate will assist our research scientists in various tasks related to experimental work, data collection, analysis, and laboratory maintenance. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in invasive species research and contribute to meaningful scientific endeavors.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Help set up laboratory experiments and fieldwork to study invasive aquatic plant species.
2. Assist with the collection and processing of research data using established protocols and techniques.
3. Perform routine laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
4. Help maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
5. Collaborate with research team members to plan, execute experiments, and troubleshoot issues.

Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working with hazardous materials and equipment.

• This is an hourly OPS position, with flexible scheduling based on project needs and candidate availability. Full-time and part-time positions are available.
• Work will involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions and physical exertion during fieldwork activities. The majority of your time will be spent doing mesocosm work outdoors at our facility in Gainesville, Florida.
• Laboratory work will also occur inside the facility. Balance between indoor and outdoor activities will be determined based on weather conditions and project needs.
• Occasional travel to field sites within the state and optional out-of-state trips.

15.00/hour, commensurate with experience

Pursuing a degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.

• Interest in invasive species ecology, aquatic ecosystems, plant management and/or plant biology.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions, maintain accurate records, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated reliability and enthusiasm for scientific research.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed for fieldwork or special projects.
