What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Assistant position at University of Florida?
The Resident Assistant position within the Department of Housing & Residence Life is required to live on campus as a resident in a residence hall in an assigned room.
General Responsibilities:
- Enhance and maintain a sense of shared community in the designated residential area by facilitating intentional interactions, social activities, and other opportunities for residents to interact with each other
- Be available to the residents in the assigned residential area for the purpose of assisting with resident’s personal concerns and problems, act as a referral agent in acquainting residents with available resources, services and facilities on campus
- Serve in an on-call rotation as assigned by supervisor, including some holidays and break periods; complete all administrative tasks as required including but not limited to documentation associated with opening, closing, room readiness checks, inventories, and work order requests
- Know and implement Housing & Residence Life crisis protocol within assigned area
- Consistently enforce Student Honor Code & Student Conduct Code by reporting observed violations through the appropriate process
- Assist in conflict resolution among residents by educating residents about housing policies and the mediation process
- Serve as a model of responsible behavior in order to assist residents in the transition between high school to college and throughout the collegiate experience
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, and individual meetings with supervisor; participate in staff development activities
- Create a residential environment that is inclusive to all resident identities, report and confront issues of bias and less-inclusive behavior, and encourage residents to utilize departmental and campus social justice resources and cultural centers.
- Support the University and Housing and Residence Life by serving and participating on task forces and committees
The Resident Assistant will receive:
- A stipend in the amount of $6,700 for a 9-month appointment (August 2023 - May 2024)
- Monthly housing rental agreement will be at the established rental rate for the Resident Assistant position
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
- Enrolled as a full-time student in good standing as defined by the University at the time of
employment which includes a successful conduct/honor code review - Maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA the semester prior to employment
- Be available for 20-hours per week
- Committed to facilitating interaction among members of the diverse university community
- At least one semester experience (online or in-person) at the University of Florida
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, manage time, and lead others
- Demonstrated professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
- Ability to work well within a team and with individuals
