Minimum Qualifications	Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary	This position will serve as Lab Manager and Technician for a genetics/molecular biology lab; This position will independently conduct experiments as defined in the research plan and to serve on a research team working on chromatin structure and function in the model fungus N. crassa and on a second project to develop anti-fungal drugs.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies	The research involves common microbiological and molecular biological techniques including strain propagation on agar slants, DNA cloning, cell transformation, DNA sequencing, PCR, Western blotting, etc. as well as operation of computer-driven data acquisition systems. Superior interpersonal skills Superior organizational and time management skills. Highly competent in molecular biological and/or biochemical methods; skills with nucleic acids and proteins desirable. Ability to work both independently and in collaborations with others at different universities, and apply critical thinking and sound judgment. Ability to manage laboratory inventory and records. Editorial skills for preparation of reports. Although not routine, willingness as needed to work with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals is important. Knowledge of computers and software applications. Knowledge of standard computer software packages for data analysis and presentation, and on-line literature search engines.
Physical Demands	Lift, climb, squat, and kneel, stand/sit for long periods. Work with animals. Wear personal protective equipment and use enhanced biosafety techniques. Efficient in both verbal and written communication in English.

Duties/Responsibilities

Research/Experiments

Maintains records of strain collections and durable long-term reagents such as antisera.
Independently sets up and monitors experiments in progress.
Identifies, troubleshoots, and corrects or recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design; methods, procedures, and techniques; or equipment and facilities.
As necessary, develops and/or implements new or modified research methods, procedures, and techniques to meet the unique requirements of assigned research problems.

Duties/Responsibilities	Data Collection/Preparation Collects, analyzes, and interprets data resulting from experimentation. Performs literature searches to develop information of relevance to the research. Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data such as sequences, graphs, charts, etc. Participates in the preparation of reports and presentation of the research findings.

Duties/Responsibilities

Lab Duties

Prepares the schedule for lab community chores by students, staff, and postdocs for completion.
Schedules and monitors utilization of laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies.
Monitors equipment and instrument performance; obtains necessary maintenance and repair.
Coordinates ordering and maintains stock of laboratory supplies.
May provide technical direction to new lab members and student workers.
Monitors work in progress to ensure accomplishment is timely and in accordance with reasonable methods and standards.
Instructs others in routine laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required.
