Duties And Responsibilities
- *Position serves as the technical lead and primary support person for campus network infrastructure, for IP telephony and other IP-based systems, and for information security initiatives.
- *Participates in the design and implementation of network infrastructure in new and renovated campus facilities with architects, consultants, contractors, and other UH staff.
- *Plans, deploys, and administers the firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, routers, switches, controllers, wireless access points, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), network cabling, and other elements comprising campus networks.
- *Designs and implements mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, troubleshoot, and tune wired and wireless network performance.
- *Coordinates with vendors, other support staff, and end users to design, implement, and administer IP-based systems including but not limited to IP telephony, access control, building automation, digital signage, security cameras, and emergency notification.
- *Assesses information security risks and leads best practice implementation to mitigate these risks.
- *Leads response to information security incidents including but not limited to spear phishing, malware infection, network intrusion, data breach, and denial of service attack.
- *Advises college staff regarding technology options and assists in procuring technology goods and services.
- *Develops and delivers user documentation and technical training in the effective use of campus technology resources.
- *Assists in deploying and maintaining servers, storage arrays, PCs, Macs, and related peripherals.
- Provides help desk services to faculty, staff, and students.
- Trains and mentors IT support staff and student employees.

- Denotes Essential Functions
- Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Information and Computer Science (ICS), Management Information Systems (MIS), or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for network administration, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of network administration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodology.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with network administration.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
