Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages and supervises a diverse team of technical and administrative professionals and associated staff and student workers in the areas of information technology (IT), digital studios, digital learning initiatives, multimedia development, and web services. Assures the team provides high-quality services to faculty, staff, and students.
- Fosters relationships and collaborations in a complex team environment to advance and enhance educational technology resources and support services for College of Social Sciences (CSS).
- Oversees the technological infrastructure and multimedia services that support teaching, learning, and faculty development in the CSS.
- Oversees administration and operations of educational technology resources; computer labs; and specialized learning spaces, including digital studios, multimedia creation, production, and services; web services; security; and help-desk services to provide services to students and faculty.
- Serves as an integral part of the College management team and regularly participates in exploratory discussions and decision-making with College and departmental management on the potential utilization of technical resources.
- Serves as primary College liaison with the UH System Information Technology Services and related offices; keeps abreast of security, governance, and best practices; and maintains expertise on all relevant policies and procedures.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding new developments and techniques in the use of current education technology and teaching practices in higher education.
- Collaborates with and provides services to faculty, staff, departmental chairs, program directors, University of Hawaii offices, and private sector service providers to identify and communicate best practices for technical resources in the academic environment.
- Responsible for long-term planning, budgeting and collaboration with departmental chairs and program directors for CSS technical resources. Responsible for the formulation of internal procedures and standards of utilization.
- Leads goals, priorities, and implementation plans and oversees planned projects, budgets, reports, publications for technical resources executed by staff in their area of expertise (e.g. IT, Digital Studies, multimedia, etc). Advises on various technical projects that affect all units in the College.
- Supervises the analysis, evaluation, and integration of multiple and complex technical systems.
- Oversees management of student and faculty labs and equipment, including purchasing decisions, scheduling, training, and borrowing associated with digital studio, computer labs, equipment (cameras, computers, UAV, etc), and other IT-related resources.
- Maintains professional and collegial relationships with faculty, staff, departments and industry professionals.
- Develops and implements professional development programs aimed at enhancing faculty and staff proficiency in technical resources.
- Provides consultation support to departments, programs, faculty, and staff for training and management of technical resources.
- Directs special projects and studies which cross functional and organizational lines and typically have College-wide impact with long-term implications.
- Directs the development and refinement of application programs.
