Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicates and works with managerial, administrative, and professional staff to determine information needs, data flows, and system definitions and document these requirements.
  • Designs and develops database schemas for existing systems and / or new systems.
  • Runs ad-hoc reports and creates custom views on an as needed basis.
  • Defines, plans, and implements backup / recovery strategies.
  • Works under minimal supervision, directly with users and assesses technical requirements based on strategic initiatives and user needs.
  • Performs programming of web and database applications.
  • Integrates up-to-date methodology, demonstrates advanced skills, project planning, and documentation to accomplish planned projects.
  • Performs programming to integrate application, fill-able forms, and databases with the web.
  • Keeps abreast of advances in information technology and assess the feasibility of incorporating into project plans and specifications.
  • Provides technical support, and advice to as necessary to resolve problems.
  • Assists with design, development, testing, and documentation of scripts and routines as needed for enhancing monitoring and for integrating servers and services.
  • Assists with design, development, testing, and documentation of status reporting programs for the gathering of performance measurements used for balanced scorecard and capacity planning reporting and activities.
  • Designs, develops, tests, and documents programs and scripts that automate routine tasks.
  • With guidance from or consultation w / senior staff, works with IT peers or customer personnel in other departments or campus operations, external vendors, service providers or institutions, to collect requirements, complete projects, or resolve problems.
  • Enforces established security procedures to mitigate or isolate the impact of network intrusions, attacks or other incidents from University resources.
  • Coordinates project efforts or work tasks that may include integrating the work of other IT professional staff, student technicians, contractors and suppliers.
  • Keeps abreast of latest developments and techniques by perusing technical journals and periodicals.
  • Investigates techniques and strategies utilized by other installations, especially higher education institutions, by participating in various professional organizations.
  • Regularly monitors relevant forums where job related issues are announced & discussed to stay informed of related problems & issues as they appear & are announced. Also passes on technical comments & suggestions that may be beneficial to colleagues.
  • Updates technical skills by attending seminars, classes, and industry conferences.
  • Analyzes and documents existing processes, procedures, and data; collects data on best practices externally; designs and implements online forms and user interfaces according to specifications.
  • Define and develop efficient queries and provide reports for ad-hoc requests.
  • Analyzes, develops, and documents technical interfaces among devices and software packages, including 3rd party systems.
  • Develops software according to specifications.
  • Assists when problems occur with applications and hardware.
  • Assists in training personnel in the use of Web-based applications.
  • Advises and assists users in evaluating and selecting appropriate computer hardware and software for the solution of their problems, and provides basic technical consulting on the implementation and application of selected solutions.
  • Keeps current on rapid developments and emerging technologies by researching articles in journals, periodicals, technical manuals, & by attending classes, conferences, presentations and self-directed study methods.
  • Learns new technologies, systems, software, and equipment needed to stay current, perform duties, and advises users especially in area of specialties.
  • Develops and experiments with new ideas, techniques, and applications to increase job productivity and efficiency.
  • Works a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and / or holiday hours, as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate educational degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for website development, desktop support, networking, Internet services and TCP / IP protocols; or any equivalent combination of education and / or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Functional knowledge of Windows and / or Macintosh systems demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.
  • Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with desktop support, networking, Internet services and TCP / IP protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems in the area of website development, desktop support, networking, Internet services and TCP / IP protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  • Some experience with multi-user system administration and set-up.
  • Experience building interactive websites.
  • Functional knowledge of programming languages.
  • Ability to accept and follow directions in a positive manner.
  • Ability to give attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of databases (SQL, NoSQL)
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript,
  • Working knowledge of CMS platforms like WordPress, Drupal, WiX, or Squarespace.
  • Understanding of web hosting, domain management, and website analytics.
  • Basic knowledge of SEO and graphic design tools like Adobe XD or Figma.
  • Working knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language).
  • Working knowledge of Spring Framework.
  • Working knowledge of issue tracking tools such as JIRA.
  • Working knowledge of Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, and Freehand.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premier, and After Effects.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, read, comprehend, interpret, and write fluently in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a positive, service-oriented manner with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, staff, and customers in a team environment to accomplish tasks and to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies independently and in a timely manner using books, manuals, and other resources.

  • Desirable Qualifications

  • Some experience with student services delivery systems.
  • Working knowledge of databases (SQL, NoSQL) and server-side technologies (Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby, etc.).
  • Some experience with JavaScript and related technologies such as JQuery, React, AngularJS and Node.js.
  • Considerable working knowledge of java build tools such as Apache Maven or Apache Ant.
  • Considerable working knowledge of XML.
  • Considerable working knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language).
  • Considerable working knowledge of Spring Framework.
  • Considerable working knowledge of issue tracking tools such as JIRA.
