Duties and Responsibilities (

Pay Band B
Perform campus and system-wide network administration and support for data networking equipment encompassing, but not limited to routers, switches, wireless, and cabling infrastructures.Supports complex data, wireless, voice and video network projects for the Manoa and University's wide-area network.Facilitate discussions with technical and non-technical University personnel to determine their network requirements.Researches a wide variety of network issues and makes recommendations on the various options available to achieve project requirements.Plans, schedules and coordinates projects to ensure that milestones are met. Communicates status and provides recommendations to the supervisor.Designs, configures and installs equipment / cabling for system-wide, campus-wide, and local area network levels, including configuration of VLANS, VRF and OSPF routing.Coordinate, facilitate, and communicate any unscheduled / scheduled maintenance outages with peers, providers, partners, customers and ITS staff in a timely manner.Troubleshoot network hardware, software, and cabling problems to resolve operational issues and restore services.Performs preventive maintenance network analysis.Performs in-depth analysis of the information provided by monitoring tools, trouble ticket history, and applications to identify root cause of problem.Analyzes problems and decides on corrective action to take to resolve the problem, such as replacement of hardware, reconfiguration and / or installation of software, and / or recabling of the network, etc.Coordinate problem isolation and repair with IT peers in other departments, other campus system and network administrators, and outside vendors, such as technical personnel from service providers, or network equipment manufacturers.As a project manager, supervise and train students and staff working on data, voice, and wireless network projects.Perform proactive security measures encompassing, but not limited to maintenance of router, switch, and wireless infrastructure have the latest software.Assist with design, development, testing, maintaining, and documentation encompassing all networks, circuits, and devices.Assist with automating manual processes for maximum efficiency.Organize, create, and maintain various network documents and diagrams.Regularly monitors relevant forums where job related issues are announced and discussed to stay informed of related problems and issues. Also passes on technical comments and suggestions that may be beneficial to colleagues.Updates technical skills by attending seminars, classes and industry conferences.Investigates techniques and strategies utilized by other installations, especially higher education institutions, by participating in various professional organizations.Performs and maintains core VOIP and Telephony infrastructure.Other Duties as Assigned.Pay Band A
Troubleshoot data, voice, and video problems for the campus and system-wide area networks.Assists with the design, configuration and installation of equipment / cabling for system-wide, campus-wide, and local area network levels, including configuration of VLANS, VRF and OSPF routing.Identify, analyze, and resolve / troubleshoot network problems. Coordinate resolving issues with others & communicates status.Upgrade network equipment operating systems & perform preventive maintenance to keep systems working properly.Work on network projects as directed.Assist with design, development, testing & documentation of status reporting programs for gathering of performance measurements for planning.Assist with student scheduling.Assist with the supervision and training of student network technicians.Organize, create and maintain various network documents and diagrams.Inventory all network equipment received for Technology Infrastructure.Assist with the DNS and DHCP services, including IP address schemes for public and private networks.Keep abreast of latest developments and techniques.Monitor status / performance of network and services environment using monitoring tools & applications. Tools may be used to identify & / or resolve problems & to collect performance data for further analysis.Take proactive measures to troubleshoot and fix network abnormalities and / or initiate trouble call tickets to the appropriate parties as necessary.Perform campus and system-wide network administration and support for data networking equipment encompassing, but not limited to routers, switches, wireless access points, and cabling.Update technical skills by attending seminars, classes, and industry conferences.Supports complex data, voice and video network projects for campus and system wide-area networks.Assists with planning, scheduling, and coordinating projects to ensure that milestones are met.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications :

Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Networking, ICS, MIS or Engineering and 5 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for Networking, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawaii broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and / or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.Considerable working knowledge of TCP / IP network protocols, network standards, and network equipment configuration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.Considerable working knowledge and understanding of optical fiber theory, transmission principles, and networking concepts.Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluation, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.Demonstrated ability to use network test equipment such as OTDR, Power Meter, Ethernet tester, etc.Demonstrated working experience managing and maintaining enterprise network architectures and infrastructures.Ability to work a variable work schedule and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and / or holiday hours, as directed.Ability to travel to ITS managed sites for extended periods of time which may include non-regular work hours.Able to work in confined spaces and elevated locations.Ability to use power tool such as drill, impact driver, circular saw, etc.Pay Band A
