This faculty position is expected to begin approximately October 2022 and will be funded by appropriated funds, with subsequent partial extramural funding expected. The University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UHCC), an NCI-Designated Cancer Center, is seeking an established investigator with significant experience in translational and laboratory research in cancer biology, immunotherapy, drug development, or biomarkers for a tenure track position in the UHCC Cancer Biology Program. The position includes 80% protected time for translational research .
The cancer biology program hosts scientists who are at the forefront of cancer research in molecular biology, gene-environment interactions, and genetics. Ideal candidates will interact synergistically with other UHCC faculty, contributing expertise in areas that could integrate with current UHCC research activities and possess NCI or other National peer-reviewed funding in translational cancer research. A strong desire, and preferably demonstrated success, in mentoring fellows and young faculty is also essential. The successful candidate will serve as co-leader of the Cancer Biology program with a focus on translational research under the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant.
Associate Professor Duties and Responsibilities :
- Perform professional and scientific research in basic cancer biology with a focus on bench-to-bedside translation.
- Maintain a current history of independent investigation competitive for national peer-reviewed grants.
- Collaborate with faculty members of the UH Cancer Center, the Hawaii Cancer Consortium, and community-based health care providers on research projects.
- Seek collaborative research opportunities leveraging Hawaii's unique multiethnic population.
- Supervise postgraduate students and participate in graduate-level teaching.
- Perform scholarly activities as assigned.
- Direct program recruitment efforts and mentor junior faculty.
