Job Description:
Full-time, tenure track, renewable depending on performance, departmental  needs and/or funding availability. The first review begins October 2024 with continuous recruitment until filled. The division of Social Sciences at the University of Hawai’i-West O’ahu (UHWO) invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Psychology to begin on August 1, 2025. We seek a dynamic and dedicated individual who is passionate about teaching, research, and contributing to the academic community.
The successful candidate for this role is expected to primarily deliver and develop needed courses to support the Psychology concentration within the Social Sciences Division at a culturally diverse four-year campus with a native Hawaiian indigenous serving mission.
 
 Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach a variety of lower and upper-level Psychology courses contingent upon the needs of the concentration of Psychology and the Division of Social Sciences, respectively. This includes introductory psychology, research methods, social psychology, addiction studies, and cross-cultural psychology.
  • Additional responsibilities include supervising senior capstone projects, developing new courses in community and health psychology
  • The regular teaching load is three (3) courses per semester, and teaching assignments involve courses delivered through in-person, online, and hybrid instructional modalities. 
  • Provide academic advising to students
  • Disseminate findings at professional conferences and through publication.
  • Conduct scholarly research and/or participate in creative endeavors
  • Participate in department, academic, university and community service
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Community Psychology or related field from an accredited university (ABD candidates are eligible to apply but must complete all degree requirements prior to the appointment).
  • Excellence in teaching as demonstrated by student evaluations and/or administrative reviews.
  • Potential for conducting relevant scholarly and/or applied research as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publication(s) or refereed conference presentations.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting and indigenous serving setting.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations.
  • Experience teaching community psychology, research methods, social psychology, cross-cultural psychology, health psychology and/or substance abuse and addiction studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver in-person, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Experience focused on indigenous or minority community development.
  • Ability to involve undergraduates in research experiences.
  • Ability to write and/or administer grants.
  • Commitment to, knowledge of, and/or experience with the mission and purpose of the University of Hawai’i to position the university as a leading indigenous-serving higher education institution.
