The Department of Economics, College of Social Sciences, University of Hawai'i at Manoa (Honolulu, Hawai'i) invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor (F-3).  This is a permanent, tenure track, full-time, 9-month, faculty appointment to begin August 1, 2025, subject to position clearance and availability of funds.

The Department of Economics is interested in a candidate who is conducting research on the causes, consequences, and/or the measurement of economic inequality. This is a broad search that is open to any field provided that the bulk of the candidate's research agenda focuses on economic inequality. We are especially (but not exclusively) interested in research on inequality within applied microeconomics fields including: public, labor, health, environmental, and development. We are seeking a candidate that is interested in exploring issues that face Hawai'i and the Asia-Pacific region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses based on area of expertise in economic inequality and the Department’s needs.
  2. Supervise and mentor MA and PhD students.
  3. Publish scholarly, peer-reviewed research in areas of expertise.
  4. Seek extramural funding in areas of expertise.
  5. Provide service to the department, university and community.
  6. Other duties as assigned by the Chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. PhD in Economics or a related field from an accredited college or university or foreign equivalent. ABDs will be considered but all degree requirements must be completed prior to date of hire. ABDs must also submit a letter from their committee chair attesting that the dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed prior to date of hire.
  2. A record of research achievement (e.g., publications, grants) commensurate with time in the field.
  3. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise.
  4. Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
