Other Conditions:  Appointment to begin approximately August 2025 (updated Nov. 6, 2024) pending position clearance and availability of funding. The University reserves the right to hire at another rank if the selected candidate is qualified for that rank.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Teach graduate and undergraduate anthropology courses with a specialty in environmental anthropology with an emphasis on community-based Pacific collections management and material conservation.
  2. Develop an active program of research that would incorporate the management and analysis of collections in the Department of Anthropology at UH Hilo.
  3. Provide service to the department including advising students and mentoring student clubs.
  4. Contribute to program development. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. PhD at the time of application from an accredited college or university in Anthropology or a related field with a primary focus on human-environmental interactions in Oceania.
  2. Experience with collections in Indigenous and multi-cultural communities and evidence of good teaching skills. 
  3. Demonstrated experience with community-based research. 

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of successful college level teaching in a multicultural environment.
  2. Qualitative and quantitative skills.
  3. Commitment to a program in empirical research and education.
  4. Skills complementing those of existing faculty for contributing to a Heritage Management M.A. degree program focused on the Pacific Islands.
  5. Ability to contribute to the Pacific Islands Studies Certificate Program including teaching upper-level courses on Oceania.
