 *** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions:   Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected begin April 2025 or soon thereafter.   

Duties:

  1. Serves as a Statistics Tutor for the Psychology Department, providing students taking courses in psychology with tutoring assistance in statistics and associated research methodology both during class time as well out of class.
  2. Serves as Teaching Assistant in PSY 213 and PSY 214 where duties include holding regularly scheduled office hours to provide one-on-one and small group assistance to psychology students using and understanding statistical techniques and research methods and as needed assisting in lecture and laboratory and proctoring exams.
  3. Assists professors in evaluating student work related to statistics and research methods.
  4. Available to statistics students in other Social Science majors. 
  5. Other duties related to knowledge and use of statistics and research methods as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field and 1 year of professional experience in providing tutoring in statistics; or equivalent education/experience that provides the necessary education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Experience and skills in using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences {SPSS), Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  3. Well organized, completes assigned tasks in a timely manner, can meet deadlines, interfaces well with students and supervisors.


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in psychology or related field.
  2. Excellent grades in higher level courses in statistics techniques and research methods in psychology.
  3. Prior experience tutoring college students in statistics.
