Duties & Responsibilities:
(Note: **denotes Essential Functions)- **Responsible for intake: assist both current and prospective students and families with financial aid questions via in-person (face-to-face), phone, email and other electronic communications.
- **Assist with overseeing the daily functions necessary to the financial aid application and awarding process.
- **Verify financial aid eligibility based on federal and state regulations.
- **Assist in conducting financial aid outreach on and off campus.
- **Advise potential and current students on financial aid, scholarship resources, and financial literacy; including assisting with Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications and budgeting.
- **Advise students on satisfactory academic progress.
- **Assist with running regularly scheduled reports through the Student Information System (currently Banner) to monitor disbursement activity and potential over awards. Review and troubleshoot to ensure that awards have been properly disbursed and adjust awards if necessary.
- **Assist students with navigating the View My Financial Aid tile within the MyUH Services, STAR and other related applications.
- **Use critical analysis skills and utilize Student Information System to resolve any discrepancies affecting financial aid eligibility for students.
- **Assist in monitoring budgets and expenditures.
- **Assist in reconciling financial aid accounts.
- **Process administrative tasks related to travel, purchasing and office operations.
- **Monitors and evaluates students continued eligibility for aid based on academic progress as specified by Federal guidelines and campus policies.
- **Assists in establishing and implementing general office policies and procedures.
- Act as a liaison between students and other agencies to assist in default resolution, with priototy to students impacting the Cohort Default Rate (*CDR)
- **Process financial aid documents and assist prospective and current students.
- Develop strategic initiatives associated with at-risk students including students who withdrew or are not meeting satisfactory academic progress.
- **Identify and submit Incorrect and Uncorrected Data Challenges to the Department of Education as needed
- **Supervise and train student help hired in the Financial Aid Office
- **Provides student financial planning and counseling services including visits and presentations to high schools and other interested groups.
- **Coordinate recruitment and/or advertising of external scholarships.
- **Serves on committees, attends statewide financial aid meetings representing the College. Attends workshops to stay current on financial aid regulations.
- **Provides general information regarding college student financial aid to public, agencies, University of Hawaii offices and campuses.

Education and Professional Work Experience- Possession of a baccalaureate degree and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for financial aid, scholarships, student loan services and or similar duties in a post-secondary institution; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student loan default management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with federal student aid and or loan programs.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software
- Demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Ability to use interpersonal skills and methods to encourage students and reduce or eliminate conflict.
- Ability to provide counseling to an individual and or group to achieve college goals.

- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and employ a variety of software and web technologies as appropriate to effectively complete daily tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Ability to assess accuracy, validity and integrity of data; ability to analyze statistics and other data; ability to interpret and evaluate results; ability to translate information into reports and presentations.
- Ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes ad resolve the full range problems that ay commonly occur in the federal student aid and or loan programs.
- Experience and competence in working with federal and university information systems, in particular the National Student Loan Database System, the US Department of Education, Banner and or STAR.
- Experience in developing programs to implement strategies addressing unique problems
- Possess the ability to determine objectives and set priorities; establish tasks and activities associated with an intended outcome and timeline; design a strategic plan with a long-term perspective.
- Experience with default management systems, in particular Borrower Connect.
