This is an inward- and outward- facing community outreach and engagement librarian committed to addressing the needs and interests of Native Hawaiian students, Hawaiian language scholars, and communities as it relates to Hawaiian language revitalization and Hawaiian knowledge sovereignty.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Actively work with the Native Hawaiian community (at UH and outside UH) to improve access to Hawaiian and Hawai'i knowledge in UH Libraries and Hawai'i repositories that have collections significant for Native Hawaiians and Hawai'i.
2. Support Hawaiian language revitalization and Hawaiian knowledge sovereignty efforts by assisting in the creation and implementation of a Hawaiian Knowledge Organization System, indexes, and reparative description.
3. Plan and coordinate events and outreach, including the Knowledge Organization Summits and public presentations to share project findings with Native Hawaiian communities and information science professionals.
4. Coordinate communications, planning, and logistics for community consultations.
5. Develop appropriate Hawaiian knowledge protocols and access policies in consultation with the Native Hawaiian community.
6. Establish and maintain relationships with Native Hawaiian organizations outside of UH to cultivate and strengthen the Library’s network with Hawaiian communities.
7. Work with UH departments and programs to support Native Hawaiian students and faculty accessing Hawaiian knowledge in the library.
8. Assist Hamilton Library administration to make the library’s online and physical services grounded in the Hawaiian language, mo'olelo, and culture.
9. Advise on library and campus initiatives that address research with Native Hawaiian communities and with Hawaiian knowledge (e.g., Hawaiian data sovereignty, research methods, and methodologies), including the UH Libraries Hawai'i-Pacific Committee.
10. Meets requirements for tenure and promotion, including professional development, research, and service.

Minimum Qualifications:
Librarian II
1. ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent
2. Demonstrated knowledge of Native Hawaiian history, language, politics, practices and contemporary issues.
3. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice, with a proven ability to foster a respectful, cooperative, professional and courteous work environment.
4. Ability and desire to interact with students, faculty, and community using excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with multicultural groups and individuals with diverse academic abilities, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, including library staff, administrators, students, faculty, and community.
6. Strong commitment to service excellence and a desire to learn user needs to create a holistic user experience of the library.

Librarian III
1. Minimum qualifications for Librarian II
2. Three years of appropriate professional experience
3. 24 post-baccalaureate credits

Desirable Qualifications
1. Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate and implement innovative approaches and solutions to continuously improve library services.
2. Demonstrated leadership experience.
3. Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects and quickly learn new tools/skills.
