Other Conditions: This advertisement is for an 11-month, non-tenure-track faculty position to begin approximately July 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Serves as the Leader of the Clinical Oncology Research and will have a crucial role in advancing the center's research mission.
- Will play a key role in developing investigator-initiated trials primarily in the area of cancer
- Oversee the implementation of the appropriate industry-sponsored trials for cancer patients.
- Work with community oncologists throughout the Hawai'i Cancer Consortium (HCC) to improve accrual to cancer clinical trials.
- Responsible in Coordinating cancer clinical trials for the University of Hawai'i Cancer Center and clinical partners within the HCC and the local community.
- The candidate is expected to collaborate with faculty members of the UH Cancer Center, the HCC, other UH departments, and community-based health care providers on research projects, researcher training/mentoring, and other academic activities through innovative research and world-class cancer care;
- Serve as a role model within the UH Cancer Center, the UH, and in the national or international research, academic, and/or medical community;
- May assist in the administration of the center and with other related professional and scientific research endeavors.
- May supervise postgraduate students (PhD or MS) and participate in graduate-level teaching;
- Direct program recruitment efforts and serves as a mentor for junior faculty.
- Actively participate and support the effort to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the UH Cancer Center.
- Other scholarly duties as assigned.
- MD and four (4) years in the rank of Associate Professor, or ten (10) years of other medical experience, or a total of ten (10) years of teaching in the rank of Associate Professor and other medical experience, or one (1) year at the rank of Professor at another medical school of recognized standing;
- Demonstrated research productivity which has resulted in significant recognition by the national or international community of scholars active in the same field;
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and/or supervise research activities; Demonstrated ability in, and program administration;
- Demonstrated capacity for independent professional research as shown by participation in the affairs of regional and/or national research groups and/or societies;
- Qualified candidates will have an innovative research program in cancer biology supported by an extensive publication record;
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model for students and junior colleagues, and to effectively meet, interact and confer with others.
- Experience as a clinical/translational physician, treating cancer patients in a clinical setting and accruing patients to therapeutic clinical trials;
- Experience in professional and scientific research field or branch of learning such as development of new diagnostics or anticancer therapeutics;
- A strong research track record with active national peer-reviewed funding in cancer and/or clinical and translational research, with evidence of a sustained extramural funding base;
- Experience with the conduct of cancer clinical trials;
