Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching 50%
- Executes all responsibilities as Head Coach in a manner that reflects an ongoing commitment to the excellence, integrity and success of the Women’s Volleyball program, of the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the University of Hawai`i at Hilo.
- Prepares and organizes daily practice sessions, game preparation for competition and off-season training.
- Recommends and prepares all schedules for home tournaments and non-conference games to the Director of Athletics.
- Organizes and administers the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA, PWC, and the University of Hawai`i at Hilo policies and procedures.
- Organizes the scouting of future opponents including video tape analysis.
- Organizes and directs the coaching staff to carry out the goals and objectives of the women’s volleyball program.
Administrative Duties 30%
- Responsibly expends allocated budget and ensures that the budget balances each fiscal year.
- Recommends personnel, financial and facilities requirements for the women’s volleyball program to the Director of Athletics.
- Implements appropriate risk management strategies at all times; engages in regular consultation with athletic training and other department sports medicine personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes; and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of students at all times.
- Responsible for recruiting NCAA eligible and fully admissible student-athletes that can compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Pacific West Conference.
- Recommends scholarship awards for student-athletes to the Director of Athletics.
- Responsible for tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes, and for working collaboratively with the Compliance Officer in this regard.
- Responsible for monitoring and supporting the student-athletes’ academic progress in consultation and coordination with the Athletics Academic Advisor.
- Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NCAA as it relates to the women’s volleyball program.
- Responsible for assisting and supporting the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics in administration and operations.
Other Duties 20%
- Prepare and participate in camps and clinics as needed.
- Actively participate and assist in promotional, marketing, public relations and fundraising activities for the program in the community, schools, and the University campus.
- Provide general advising, mentoring and support to student-athletes.
- Role model and engage in ethical decision-making and outstanding sportsmanship.
- Demonstrate through actions and communicate a respect for diversity and cross-cultural differences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Click here to enter Minimum Qualifications Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in any field, and five (5) seasons experience coaching university or college volleyball.
- Any equivalent combination of education and training experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the general public, University community, and the athletic community.
- Experience working in multi-cultural environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field.
- Demonstrated experience in the recruitment of student-athletes.
- Demonstrated experience in budgetary management.
- Possess thorough knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Demonstrate ability to monitor and supervise subordinate professionals and students.
- Demonstrate ability to develop a highly competitive volleyball program.
- Participated as a student-athlete on the post-secondary level.
