Summary
Directs and oversees the daily operations of the University’s Student Health Center (SHC) activities related to the delivery of health care and oversight of health care providers. In addition to a role as a Physician, the Medical Director also holds the responsibility for medical decisions of the Student Health Center.
Job Duties
- Works as a member of the Division of Student Life & Dean of students leadership team and supports the division’s vision for Student Health and Health promotion.
- Provides oversight for licensed physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and other health care providers.
- Manages overall responsibility for medical decisions for the SHC.
- Represents the Health Center by serving on University committees that require a physician and acts as a physician liaison with health-related professional Colleges and the local medical community, including outreach and consultation.
- Provides direct patient care, including utilizing electronic medical records and medical history, physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Orders and interprets laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs, etc.
- Performs minor surgical procedures such as suturing lacerations.
- Provides health education, counseling to patients, and patient referrals to other physicians or hospitals for further treatment and care as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
