Description
Conducts fire and life safety inspections and implements and enforces applicable National Fire Protection Association Standards, State Fire Marshal mandates and University of Houston policies, orders and directives.
- Conducts life safety inspections of interiors and exteriors of University facilities to detect fire hazards, efficiency of fire protection systems, and adequacy of fire escapes and exits.
- Prepares detailed inspection reports; discusses unsafe conditions and corrective actions with responsible party.
- Issues notices for uncorrected fire hazards from previous inspections and follows up to resolves compliance problems.
- Conducts permit inspections and issues permits in compliance with fire safety regulations.
- Performs periodic flow tests and inspections of campus fire hydrants.
- Responds to complaints regarding fire hazards and code violations; researches fire code violations and provides direction and/or technical assistance for correction.
- Coordinates fire drills and fire prevention programs to educate faculty, staff, and students.
- Reviews fire protection plans and building plans for applicable code compliance, advises of required changes, and approves completed plans.
- Conducts acceptance tests of fire alarms, sprinklers, and other fire protection systems and equipment, coordinates corrections with contractors.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
- Education will be considered in lieu of experience.
- TCFP Inspector certification preferred.
