Position Overview:
This position reports to the Director of Admissions Operations and, in conjunction with the Director, manages operational and administrative functions for the department. The Assistant Director has responsibility for assigning employee workloads and job priorities during peak processing cycles to meet processing goals and ensure compliance and data quality standards. The Assistant Director must maintain a strong knowledge of systems and their integration with each other, admission processes and procedures, and student and admissions-related policies and regulations across the university. This position assists with the review of current policies, the establishment of new policies, the detailed planning and organization of personnel responsibilities and office procedures and performs related duties. The Assistant Director supervises domestic admissions specialists and student workers, mentors team members and ensures their professional development.
Required Experience:
- Interpreting and applying laws, rules and procedures
- Analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve issues
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with others such as students, faculty, staff or administrators
Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other:
- Eligible for membership in professional organizations such as AACRAO and PACRAO
Additional Preferred:
- Bachelors Degree
- Work experience in a college or university setting
- Work experience in an admissions environment
- Supervisory experience
- Knowledge of UI policies and procedures, campus facilities and student support services
- Experience with the Banner administrative database system
- Experience with Slate
- Ability to take initiative, exercise sound judgment, and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge and understanding of the structure and chain of responsibilities within a university
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to identify, research and correct errors for multiple or complex programs
