The University of Idaho’s Department of Movement Sciences at the University of Idaho is seeking a full-time, non-tenure track, Clinical Assistant Professor in Dance. This position is contingent on work and/or funding. The Dance Program has a rich instructional and scholarly outreach tradition at the University of Idaho and has the only four-year B.S. Dance degree in Idaho. The ideal candidate will teach courses in the Dance Program, assist with dance outreach, choreograph for dance productions, and engage in departmental and programmatic service. The ideal candidate will bring expertise to our undergraduate dance curriculum by teaching across a broad range of content areas while emphasizing a blend of theory and practice, as well as aligning their instruction with healthy practices in dance studies and performance. Engagement with students as well as collaboration with faculty in the department and across other disciplines is highly valued. We aim to recruit a dynamic educator with expertise in two or more dance idioms: contemporary/modern, jazz, ballet, or hip hop. Additional areas of teaching expertise could include but are not limited to the following: movement analysis, world dance, dance history, dance pedagogy, dance composition, improvisation, dance performance, dance production, dance conditioning, or creative dance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in the production of at least one main stage dance concert and support dance outreach student engagements. Expectations of the position also include a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students.

The Department of Movement Sciences promotes, and advances careers related to healthy active lifestyles through undergraduate degrees in: Recreation, Sport, and Tourism Management; Exercise, Sport, and Health Sciences, and Dance. The department offers an MEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology, including a specialization in physical activity and dance pedagogy, and a Ph.D. in Kinesiology.

This faculty appointment is contingent on funding and/or work to support the position. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event of insufficient funding and/or work, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may: (1) change this Agreement by adjusting the employee’s FTE and annual salary throughout the contract year; or (2) terminate this Agreement and employee’s employment prior to the end of the term of appointment, upon 60 days written notice. Employee further acknowledges and agrees that in the event termination for insufficient funding and/or work becomes necessary, the notice provisions of Faculty Staff Handbook 3900B will not apply.

Required Qualifications

- MFA in Dance or a master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience teaching multiple dance techniques and content areas
- Experience assisting, collaborating in, or directing and/or choreographing a main stage production
In addition to the required qualifications, we are interested in candidates who have:
- Experience fostering healthy practice in teaching and learning, creative processes, and performance in dance.
- Credentials for and experience in teaching a somatic practice (e.g., Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis, Yoga, and/or Pilates).
- Experience engaging with students in outreach, mentorship, and recruitment events.
- Experience developing and delivering of coursework (e.g., online and face-to-face) for undergraduate students, focused on combining theory and practice.
- Experience advising and/or mentoring undergraduate students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and civility.
