Position Overview:
The Confluence Lab, in partnership with the Idaho Society of Fellows (ISF), is excited to announce a 10-month postdoctoral fellowship starting August 2025 at the University of Idaho, on the Moscow, Idaho campus. The fellowship is a part of the NEH-supported Fire Humanities: Theory and Practice project, which will produce an edited collection that launches this new field. The fellow will support research and writing for the book, coordinate a series of workshops, assist with the development of a fire humanities digital hub, and promote the project and the fire humanities. The fellow will also join the Idaho Society of Fellows (ISF), a rotating cohort of approximately six fellows from History, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, International Studies, and Political Science. Fellows are provided with travel support and opportunities for collaboration across the humanities and beyond as well as mentorship and infrastructure to carry out scholarly research, engage with students, and host symposia to highlight opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration. The fellow will teach one English course per semester. The fellowship provides a salary of $39,000 and benefits.

Required Experience
- Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching
- Experience working independently and collaboratively
- PhD in English, environmental studies, or a related discipline by appointment start date Relevant disciplines could include environmental science, geography, fire ecology, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, history, and Indigenous studies
Additional Preferred:
- Experience with interdisciplinary methodologies and fire resilience in rural communities
- Experience teaching science writing and/or environmental writing
- Experience bridging research and practice and/or working with communities beyond academia
