Posting Context Statement:
The Western Rural Development Center is one of four rural development centers established by Congresss Rural Development Act of 1972 and works with the other three Regional Rural Development Centers to achieve their shared mission. It is a collaborative effort between the United States Department and the University of Idaho. The core of its funding comes from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The WRDC works with public universities in the Western region to conduct research-based studies and educational outreach programs, and partners with local communities to address rural development issues. The centers objective is to strengthen land-grant universities and extension services to support self-sustaining rural communities.
Position Overview:
Performs research activities and analysis; implements, evaluates, and recommends adjustments to research procedures. Responsible for synthesizing and independently preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a significant degree of creativity and latitude. May coordinate research operations and the daily activities of junior research personnel.
Duties may include:
- Participate in planning and designing of major scientific projects, studies, or applications
- Plan and conduct research and analysis of scientific data
- Prepare graphic and narrative reports
- Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
- Perform site inspections and field oversight if field work is required
- Plan, design, develop, monitor and evaluate a distinct portion of a scientific project, study or application
- Research, design, implement, standardize, and evaluate new procedures
- Maintain detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Two years of research experience beyond receipt of a Masters Degree related to the domain of this position
Required Education:
- Masters Degree in Applied Economics or Economics
Required Other:
- May be required to work some evenings or weekends
- Occasional travel may be required
Additional Preferred:
- Ph.D. in applied economics or economics
- Demonstrating organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrating ability to keep records of research data and summarize research data
- A record of research productivity and excellence
- Excellent training in qualitative methods, econometrics, and applied microeconomic theory
- Experience in qualitative methods, econometrics, and applied microeconomic theory
- Experience using econometric software, being STATA strongly preferred
- Experience working in interdisciplinary research projects and team settings financed by USA agencies
- Experience developing and delivering scientific presentations at national or international conferences
- Experience working in USA entrepreneurship issues with a minority focus
- Excellence in writing and communication skills
