UIC is continuously seeking talented and dedicated Building Service Workers to assist with all aspects of the maintenance of UIC Buildings and our Hospital. There are multiple shifts for this role and a work schedule and work assignment will be assigned at time of hire and are subject to change based on business operational needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Building Service Worker is primarily responsible for cleaning, detailing and sanitizing rooms and critical care areas. Terminal cleaning may also be required. Time management is a major component. Types of cleaning may include;

The Building Service Worker is primarily responsible for cleaning, detailing and sanitizing rooms and critical care areas. Terminal cleaning may also be required. Time management is a major component. Types of cleaning may include;
- High dusting
- Empty, clean, replace trash can liners
- Damp wipe furniture, surfaces, and ledges
- Spot clean walls, doors, glass surfaces
- Clean counters/sinks and bathrooms
- Dust, mop floors and/or vacuum carpets
- Cleaning patient areas and all operational areas of the hospital. Patient area cleaning involves but is not limited to cleaning patient / visitor lounges, tub rooms, public washrooms, corridors, clinics, lab areas, nursing areas, x-ray, procedural areas and corridors etc. Ancillary areas, such as the kitchen, cafeteria, central sterile supply, material management, pharmacy, morgue and office areas are also cleaned and sanitized.
- Required to vacuum, buff floors, clean stainless steel or brass and operate floor machines.
- Building Service Workers must be able to terminally clean and strictly adhere to infection control practices.
- Remove infectious waste and recyclables from the units and the hospital in proper containers.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
