Description:
The dietitian in the neonatal intensive care unit performs clinical assessment of infants, designs nutrition care plans with the medical team, develops enteral and parenteral regimens, establishes lactation/breastfeeding guidelines and may oversees the management of infection prevention in the handling, storage, and delivery of nutritional products.

Description:
The dietitian in the neonatal intensive care unit performs clinical assessment of infants, designs nutrition care plans with the medical team, develops enteral and parenteral regimens, establishes lactation/breastfeeding guidelines and may oversees the management of infection prevention in the handling, storage, and delivery of nutritional products.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assess patients’ nutritional status and develop/implement appropriate treatment plan, nutrition interventions.
- Implement medical nutrition therapy (MNT), document findings and recommendations.
- Reassess patient for changes in nutritional needs, document nutritional plan of care and monitor progress.
- Educate parent/caregiver to all aspects of MNT.
- Provide educational materials.
- Collaborate with patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in discharge planning and communicate with outpatient Pediatric dietitian for follow up as needed.
- Establish lactation/breast milk feeding guidelines and oversee the management of infection prevention in the handling, storage, and delivery of nutritional products.
- Train new staff and dietetic Interns; accept responsibility for coaching, teaching, and mentoring to help meet clinical competency requirements.
- Preparation and presentation of staff in-services.
- Coordinate and participate in the mixing of special formulas in the formula lab.
- Monitor quality improvement (QI).
- Demonstrate pediatric experience.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Possession of current Registered Dietitian licensure from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations and credentials and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
