Description:
Under the general supervision of the Patient Accounts Manager, this position processes claims for billing and collections related to hospital services rendered to Medicare Part A/B beneficiaries. Resolving billing-related claim edits, addressing unresolved balances, and disputing denied claims, are functions a qualified candidate for this role are expected to execute.
The department would like to hire a candidate with some prior experience working within Hospital Patient Accounting. Requiring at least a prior year experience will ensure they are familiar with the general concepts when it comes to hospital based service. This mostly relates to Inpatient Care as it is reimbursed differently from clinic based care.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Transmits all claims electronically and hard copy.
- Reviews, investigates and corrects rejected and denied claims.
- Submits claims for reconsideration and appeal.
- Prepares adjustments for processing.
- Updates insurance as necessary.
- Processes adjustments to Medicare.
- Prepare refund requests.
- Review accounts for Medicare bad debt placement.
- May interact with internal and external customers by telephone and other means to resolve problems related to Revenue Cycle activities.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Any one or combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the categories below:
- College coursework in a health-related field, business administration/management, human resource management, or closely related fields as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- Work experience in a healthcare environment working with medical claims, denials, rejections, referrals, and prior authorizations.
- Over one (1) year of experience in medical billings and collections, specifically for hospital-based services.
- Excellent communication skills
- Prior experience with Epic
- Prior experience with Medicare Billing Practices
