Title: Academic Advisor/Senior Academic Advisor
Primary Function of Academic Advisor Position Serve as primary advisor to roughly one third of the students in the Department of ACE. Manage student ambassadors and peer mentor teams to support departmental outreach activities. Teach professional development course and support student organizations related to subjects of emphasis.
Primary Function of Senior Academic Advisor Position Serve as a mentor to the advising team and provide advanced-level academic advising for students in the Department of ACE. In coordination ACE Advising Administration, assist in implementing and upholding advising initiatives and protocols. Manage student ambassadors and peer mentor teams to support departmental outreach activities. Teach professional development course and support student organizations related to subjects of emphasis.

Provide Academic Advising Services to Assigned Students
Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in agricultural economics, agribusiness management, general agriculture, business, communications, or a related field.
Preferred: Master's degree in one of the fields mentioned previously or Higher Education or related fields.
Experience
Minimum Qualifications for Academic Advisor:
Minimum of 2 years of work experience in agricultural business, academic advising, teaching or similar fields. Experience in independently organizing and managing program activities. Expertise with Microsoft Office.
Minimum Qualifications For Senior Academic Advisor
In addition to required qualifications for Academic Advisor, minimum 2 years of professional advising experience or equivalent experience in a related higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications For Academic Advisor
Minimum 2 years of professional advising experience or equivalent experience in a related career field. Demonstrated experience or interest in production agriculture, food and agricultural business, commodity marketing, rural development, or similar. Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience. Understanding of the higher education marketplace.
Preferred Qualifications For Senior Academic Advisor
In addition to preferred qualifications for Academic Advisor, 3-5 years professional advising experience or equivalent experience in a university environment in academic advising or similar career field. Supervisory experience. Experience working with learning management systems (e.g. Canvas). Understanding of university-level curricula and auditing systems used to track student progress through program. Experience with recruitment, sales, or similar activities. Experience with data reporting/management. Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience. Understanding of the higher education marketplace.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to apply past experiences and analysis of information to arrive at sound and timely decisions. Ability to work successfully with diverse groups in a team-oriented environment. Strong communications and interpersonal skills. Flexibility and strong independent problem-solving skills. Knowledge of advising theories and student development practices.Appointment Information
This is a full-time (100%, 12-month) Academic Professional appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for the Academic Advisor position is $50,000 to $65,000 and the budgeted salary range for the Senior Academic Advisor position is $65,000 to $75,000. Provide Academic Advising Services to Assigned Students
- Advise students in key department concentrations regarding curriculum requirements, course selection, registration, and post-graduation plans.
- Assist students with internships, job shadowing experiences, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Welcome and advise new students and intercollegiate transfer students, assisting with course selection and curriculum planning.
- Support students in identifying and pursuing their interests, abilities, skills, and academic goals regarding their academic careers.
- Introduce students to opportunities that will enrich their academic experience, encourage academic and personal development, and support holistic success.
- Serve as first point of contact regarding navigating the University, making informed decisions, and finding necessary resources.
- Identify and support struggling or at-risk students, providing appropriate referrals.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
- Serve on Department of ACE and College of ACES Advising Teams.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Working closely with administration, faculty, and staff within the department and the College of ACES, coordinate departmental outreach and prospective student engagement activities.
- Recruit, train, and manage student ambassadors and peer mentors each semester.
- Coordinate prospective student visits and ambassador participation in college-level events.
- Work with campus partners to support intercollegiate transfer outreach and transitions.
- Teach up to two one-credit hour courses in career exploration and professional development.
- As part of the teaching team, create appropriate lecture materials to support student professional development.
- Provide advanced-level academic advising responsibilities, serving as a team lead for advising students regarding ACE majors.
- In coordination with Departmental administrators, assist in implementing and upholding advising initiatives and protocols.
- Mentor and support new advising staff as needed.
- Utilize data to inform and develop outreach activities and to communicate enrollment outcomes to faculty and staff.
- Serve on University and College advising committees as requested to ensure collaboration and policy alignment as required.
Education
