Department of Animal Sciences Position: Assistant or Associate Professor, Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Ruminant Nutrition and Sustainability in the Department of Animal Sciences (50% Research | 50% Teaching)Description: This position is available through a strategic departmental hiring plan to expand research and education to provide safe, reliable food for a growing world population and promote animal health and well-being. This position will focus on ruminant nutrition and sustainability, emphasizing dairy or beef cattle. We seek an outstanding scholar and educator who will develop a world-class research program focused on advancing the sustainability of ruminant livestock production, with an emphasis on nutrition, animal health, and resource use efficiency, including but not limited to methane mitigation, waste management, and life cycle assessment. The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of addressing global food security challenges while promoting sustainable practices within the agricultural industry. The person hired will develop a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program, collaborate across disciplines and with industry partners to seek practical solutions to questions that have environmental, economic, social, and moral implications for stakeholders, including consumers, and contribute to the department’s academic programs. This position builds on our history and ongoing research in genetics, nutrition, meat science, precision management, immune and reproductive physiology, microbiology, and animal systems. Qualifications:Assistant Professor: Required qualifications for candidates include (1) Ph.D. degree in animal science or relevant field by the start date; (2) research emphasis on ruminant nutrition and sustainability; (3) a record of publication; (4) potential to develop an extramurally funded research program; and (5) commitment to teaching and mentoring students. Post-doctoral training with evidence of securing competitive research funding is preferred. Associate Professor: Required qualifications for candidates include (1) Ph.D. degree in animal science or relevant field; (2) research emphasis on ruminant nutrition and sustainability; (3) strong record of publication; (4) demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding; and (5) commitment to teaching and mentoring students.Responsibilities: The successful candidate will develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program supported by extramural funding, contribute to academic programs related to ruminant nutrition and sustainability, and perform other services expected at an academic institution. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and contribute to courses such as Ruminant Nutrition, Advanced Ruminant Nutrition, and Nutrient Metabolism. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to develop new courses in their area of expertise to enhance the Department’s curriculum.Proposed Start Date: August 16, 2025Salary Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
