Position Summary
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, College of Medicine, at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC), is soliciting applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position in systems biology, genomics, and computational biology. We are seeking innovative and collaborative individuals who will develop independent systems biology research programs in areas related to (but not limited to): single cell transcriptomics, single cell epigenomics, spatial transcriptomics, multi-omic integration, metabolomics, metabolism, proteomics, metagenomics, CRISPR/Cas9 screening and novel machine learning/deep learning based analytical approaches in computational biology.
The Department has implemented a junior faculty mentoring program in which Assistant Professors are advised by established investigators. Members of each mentoring committee regularly meet junior faculty members to help them navigate the process of growing an independent research program, developing new research collaborations, turning scientific research and ideas into successful grant applications, and progressing through the University’s tenure process. The Department partners with multi-departmental centers such as the Cancer Center , the Center for Cardiovascular Research or the Center for Bioinformatics and Quantitative Biology as well as clinical departments with strong clinical research programs. These in place relationships proved a source for new multi-disciplinary collaborations.
UIC offers an intellectually exciting, collegial, and supportive environment with several NIH-funded training grants to support predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. The department participates in several PhD programs including the umbrella Graduate Education in bioMedical Sciences (GEMS) PhD program that includes all basic science departments in the College of Medicine. Our faculty also regularly recruit PhD students from PhD programs in Bioinformatics. Collaboration and co-mentoring across different departments are hallmarks of the research community at the University. Together with Northwestern University and the University of Chicago. - Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral trainees
- Develop productive collaborations with research partners within the department, the University, and with colleagues outside of the university
